Ishii Orochi (WIP) Empty Ishii Orochi (WIP)

Post by Orochi Fri Nov 01, 2019 2:19 pm

The Basics

Name: Ishii Orochi (current persona; True Name unknown)
English Translation: Snake of the Stone Well
Species: Dragon; currently inhabiting a Shinigami Shapeshifter's shell.
Race: Shinigami
Gender: Identifies as Male
Date of Birth: Orochi neither knows nor cares to know his birthday. He prizes privacy over infamy, so he makes a habit of hopping from shell to shell so as to avoid awkward observations from others about his apparent ‘longevity’. He is partial to his current persona however, which eyewitness accounts place his as a teaching aide in the Academy roughly two thousand years ago, give or take. He refuses to be drawn into conversations regarding his age, viewing it irrelevant to anything of concern.
Appearance Age: Late 50s
Actual Age: Unknown even to himself as he does not make a habit of commemorating the occasion, but he believes himself second or third generation, as he has never seen Eden.
Organization and Rank: Orochi is a member of the Gotei currently holding the post of 4th Division Captain. Aside from those responsibilities, he also maintains an honorary post of Kaido instructor at the Academy.

Height: Orochi is 5’11” when standing upright inhabiting his current shell. Age has given him a stoop however, which makes him appear shorter than what he actually is. In his actual body, he is two feet tall.
Weight: 170 pounds (in current shell). His actual weight is 10kg, 22lbs
Hair color: The hair of the body Orochi is inhabiting is salt-and-pepper, originally black but starting to grey and whiten at the temples. Whitish streaks run through it in a couple places. He wears it short
Eye color: Yellow sclera, black pupils. Orochi’s eyes are serpentine in their intensity, and their unusual hue is off-putting to say the least.
General Appearance: Orochi is not the first impression a person usually has when picturing a doctor. Although physically unremarkable, there is a quality of impatience and indifference about him sufficient enough to give even the rowdiest of Eleventh Division pause. He keeps his hair short and neatly combed on the rare occasions that he is seen without his surgical cap. He wears three pairs of spectacles that he is wont to fiddle with and replace; one pair perched on his nose and the other two swept up upon his forehead. They have a tendency to magnify his eyes to enormous proportions; fully displaying the unsettling vertical nature of his pupils. These are keen and piercing, looking as though they are able to see directly through a person to uncover all of their secrets. His nose is slightly hooked; when taken together with his gaze giving him some resemblance to a watchful bird of prey. His skin is starting to show signs of age, with wrinkles developing upon forehead and hands. He has the vestiges of an old scar on his chest, in the region directly above his heart. It is rumored among colleagues and those among the Gotei who have seen it that this place marks the site of a surgery the good doctor performed upon himself centuries ago when he ripped out his heart and cast it aside after deciding it to be a useless distraction.

He has narrow shoulders with a tendency to slope and cultivates a circle beard that combines with a moustache to hide his weak chin. His build is thin and wiry, not unlike a pencil. He walks with a slight old-man’s shuffle.

Orichi’s fingers are pianist fingers—long, dexterous and graceful with well-manicured nails. They are unlined and limber, more so than what one might expect for a person of his age. He treats them with the care a master craftsman has for his tools, often keeping them hidden behind surgical or white kid-gloves. His complexion is pale with somewhat of a sallow pallor from all that time cooped up indoors in his office and laboratory.

He is usually seen wearing his captain’s haori over surgical scrubs complete with cap and gloves in a careless fashion; draping the coat around his shoulders like a stole without actually putting his arms in the sleeves. This allows him to cast off haori and attire himself for surgery at short notice. Aside from the coat, nothing of his clothing really suggests ‘shinigami’ at all, as he has even foregone the usual white socks and tabi footwear in favor of rubber slippers. Among these, he favors Crocs the most and has a modest selection of Croc-brand slippers in varying colors that he uses both in the lab and outside.  It is not uncommon to see him with suspicious stains painting his haori or medical attire. On the whole his colleagues have more or less given up attempting to convince him to adhere to the dress code befitting of a lecturer and officer.

On his off-days (of which there are little), Orochi dons formal western attire—long sleeved shirt buttoned to the neck paired with somber tie and pinstripe coat, with dress pants ending in Croc slippers. The garments are finely tailored and pressed. Cufflinks peek from his sleeves and he sports a tie clip fashioned into the motif of a serpent. A long bronze-capped walking stick completes this ensemble, its headpiece again sporting a snake façade with fangs bared and ready to strike. He uses this as a crutch at times when traveling from place to place, moving with some trace of a limp in the left leg.

Orochi’s shapeshifter form is that of a blue krait snake; yellowish white with bluish-black crossbands marking body and tail. In snake form he reaches up to 3 feet long. He is venomous, with a bite that can fatally poison if left untreated.

Orochi’s true appearance is that of a small, furry mammal that bears a passing resemblance to a marsupial with reptilian features. Floppy ears and an explosive forelock fringe frame a face with large expressive eyes and tiny nose. From the neck down he might be mistaken for a stunted kangaroo in the way he carries himself ‘upright’ with weight resting on sturdy hindquarters while leaving spindly forelimbs free. Here the resemblance ends, however. His body is covered in shaggy fur far longer than the animal he resembles, and he possesses large claws upon his paws. Leathern wings sprout directly from growths upon the shoulderblades on either side of the bony spike protrusions that jut from his spine from the base of the neck all the way to point-tipped tail.

True: Ishii Orochi (WIP) 4

The Psyche

Redeeming Qualities:

• Orochi is good at what he does. Very, very good. In the healing arts he is somewhat of a savant, and it is his skill in this field that causes superiors and colleagues to overlook his more worrying qualities. Those who have watched him at his work are able to see that even the more fanciful myths about his ability have their origin in truth.

• As a doctor, Orochi is able to function under pressure and make snap decisions on what elements to triage or prioritize. He is not easily rattled, and is able to keep his head while those around him are losing theirs.  He is not known to lose his patience or temper, and has never been heard to raise his voice. The ability to keep a clear mind helps him to evaluate situations and turn things to advantage

• Orochi is driven. When faced with a project or a task that he has committed to do it is not easy to pull him away. Regardless of what it is, once he takes it upon himself to do something he will give his all. He does not believe in half measures. Nor is he the type to delegate or entrust important responsibilities to others when they require his personal touch. He can often be found working late into the night in Squad 4’s medical bay, putting himself at the front line with the junior officers.

• Orochi possesses an unusually high reservoir of reishii energy, enough to leak from his person and intimidate others with its presence. His reishii reserves allow him to pull all-nighters and keep going past the point other medics succumb to exhaustion. They also supply the raw energies that power his Kaido arts.

• Orochi is protective of things that are his. Although this stems more from a territorial perception of ownership rather than any actual feelings of endearment for people, place or item; the result is still the same. Opponents threaten his division and squad members at their peril, for he will take such actions as a personal affront and respond with disproportionate retribution. His conception of underlings as ‘resources’ ironically makes him a better boss than most, since he takes pains not to waste lives or efforts frivolously. Unlike some leaders who will squander their forces and expect subordinates to die for them, Orochi tries to preserve as many of his people as possible e.g by withdrawing them from danger if it will serve no purpose other than a risk of being killed.

• When it comes to possessions, Orochi has an eidetic memory. This extends to people who work under him, and resources he owns. He is able to call every member of the 4th by name and remember where their strengths lie, as well as recall obscure details in books or medical reports that are stored in his office. He knows the precise location of every file, document and resource as well as their contents, reigning over his Division like a dragon over its golden hoard.

• Orochi is also an accomplished teacher, one that is still being employed in a senior role as kido lecturer in the Academy. Many students under him have gone on to become successful shinigami and instructors in their own right

Negative Qualities:

• Orochi has no bedside manner to speak of. None. At all. His tones are brusque at best, and cutting at worst. He is not one to sugar-coat facts, and thinks nothing of dryly informing a patient on his operating table that they have a less than 5% likelihood to live. He is not one to suffer fools, reserving biting snark and stinging put-downs for unlucky souls to incur the full wrath of his tongue. It is his sincere belief that the role of doctor and caretaker are mutually incompatible ones, and that people wanting kind words or encouragement would be better suited to visiting a nursery. Often it is his staff of junior officers who run interference for him when it comes to handling public relations or processing patients in need, for no other reason than to spare them from the Captain’s emotionless practicalities.

• Orochi has no use for sentiment or frivolity. He is a scrooge in all regards, loathing celebrations and seeing holidays as merely an excuse for those idiots in the Eleventh to drink copious amounts of alcohol that will only serve to land them in his waiting room one way or another. He looks with disdain on people who find meaning in birthdays and holidays of any kind, and has once unleashed shikai upon an unlucky subordinate who had the cheek to get him a birthday present.

• Orochi displays traces of OCD when it comes to routines and presentations. He dislikes it when others move anything from its rightful place, or interrupt the arrangement of his tools and desk. It puts him in a bad mood to discover his things messed with; even when shifted merely a few inches to one side.

• Orochi is also a narcissist. He is good at what he does but unfortunately, he knows it. This makes him somewhat of a prima-donna drama-queen—giving himself airs and fancying himself the Soul Queen’s gift to Kaido itself. Reacts poorly to being contradicted, or having anyone suggest that he may not be the smartest person in the room. Subordinates and superiors find that they have to humor him when he is in these moods, as his usefulness is too good to risk.

• Nor is it any secret that Orochi works for the highest bidder. During the events of the Civil War he played both sides, acting in the function of medic and selling his services on the black market for members of any faction who were willing to pay. Although he has been given a blanket pardon along with some of the others who supported the former regime, it is in Orochi’s nature to always be on the winning side and there is no doubt that he will switch his loyalties to another if he feels it necessary. The Gotei supply him with funding and a space to conduct his experiments, so he serves them in return…for the time being.

Likes:

• Although unusual for a man his age, Orochi has a sweet tooth. He subsists on candies when working long hours in the medical bay for the sugar rush they give as it keeps him awake. Most of these he imports from the world of the living.

• Orochi also likes Power. He enjoys the heady rush when using his abilities to preserve or heal, likening it to having power of life and death over his patient.

• Orochi is partial to western culture. When not attired for surgery he favours western-style clothing and styles his hair in similar fashion. He prefers english tea (the kind that's served with crumpets) to the japanese variety

• Orochi enjoys collecting items. He has amassed quite a store of things over the years--books, figurines, tools etc. It is hard to say why he collects them, as he just keeps them in storage and doesn't seem to use or look at them at all. But in actuality he is always aware of every item's precise location in his collection, its description and contents. When 'finished' with a certain collection, he will set his eye on something else (sometimes even entirely different from the previous theme) and start from the beginning again.

• He likes Croc brand slippers, finding them easy to slip on and comfortable to wear, ideal for any occasion from walking to surgery. He owns several of these in a variety of colors.

Dislikes:

While not exactly one's impression of a people-person, Orochi particularly doesn't care for the 11th Division or anyone who has any relation to it. He considers them to be boorish, savage thugs who have nothing better to do than take up space in Squad 4's waiting room and has expressed this sentiment on a number of occasions.

• Orochi dislikes interruptions. Few things irritate him more than to be called away from something he is doing at the present moment.

• He cannot abide mess as well. There is a place for everything in his office, and everything has to be in its place. Having people remove objects and not return them; or even put them in the wrong places ruins his mood for most of the day.

• Orochi has no tolerance for spices or spicy food. Even the aroma of it makes him sneeze if he is nearby and he doesn't care for the taste

• Ironically for a creature possessing such a reservoir of spiritual energy; Orochi has no aptitude for the other branches of Kido other than healing Kaido. Hado spells tend to flare and react violently should he attempt to cast them, and even Bakudo fizzles out or explodes. This is partly due to the quantity of potential energy that most Dragons possess; he finds it unwieldy to focus and shape to certain ends just like how a doctor would find it hard to perform surgery with a sledgehammer. Therefore he has adopted a sour-grapes approach to the other Kido disciplines, disdaining them and people who use them in a way of alleviating the loss of not being able to himself.

• Orochi does not like patients. He considers the whole lot of them nothing but whiny complainers who don't know what's good for them. This might be an unusual attitude for a doctor to have; but what Orochi truly finds satisfying about his role isn't helping people to get better; but the challenge each unique case has to offer him. It is this challenge and the exhilaration of overcoming it that keeps him tied to his job, not the actual people he is attending. He is often quoted saying that his duty is to heal injuries, not offer comfort--and that people in search of the latter would be better employed looking elsewhere.

Personal Habits: Orochi tends to fiddle with his multiple pairs of spectacles as an unconscious action, sometimes polishing their lenses and at other times swapping between pairs while he works. His hands are rarely still, they seem to twitch with excess energy as though itching for something to do even on occasions when he isn't occupied.
Goals:
Short-term Goals: Merely to avoid calling attention to himself and his true nature. For all his surface prickliness, Orochi is fond deep down of the position he's built up for himself in the Gotei over the years and is in no particular hurry to move on. As such he makes it a point to keep up appearances so others will not suspect what he really is.
Long-term Goals: Orochi has somewhat of a rivalry with both the Kido Chief and Commander, having known both of them before they attained their current positions and so envying their appointments. He feels himself as talented as either or even more so; and it is a sore point with him that he has not managed to attain a higher position in the same time as they. Where he can (and would not jeopardize his identity), he attempts to work on improving his standing and being ranked among both Ma'kine and Lanying as equals.
General Personality: Orochi is narcisstic and arrogant, with a sharp tongue and cutting wit. One thing in his favor is that he disdains almost everyone equally however, and does not play favorites or fawn upon certain people. He always has an air of long-suffering impatience around him which shows in the clipped nature of his speech and brisk movements. He can be a hard boss to work for, since he has high standards and expectations of his staff. But for those he grudgingly considers adequate he reserves the occasional pleasantry or acknowledgement for jobs well done. While humorless and exacting, he is himself a hard worker and will not shirk his responsibilities or excessively delegate to others in his squad.
Something Special: Orochi maintains a modest enclosure in a section of his laboratory where he keeps a collection of small Hollows (tiny ones of limited threat and no sentience). He used to keep larger specimens back in the days when the gladiator pits where prisoners were sentenced to fight Hollows were still in use; and would supply some of his private collection for that purpose of gladiatorial combat. Ever since the pits fell into disuse and the practice discontinued, he has cut down considerably on his specimens and now only keeps a few tiny varieties around as curiosities for observation and test subjects.

(If you are a True Dragon, delete the Corpse Dragon and Eldritch Dragon sections. If you are one of the other two, delete only Corpse Dragon or Eldritch Dragon, whichever does not apply to your specific Dragon)
True Dragons

Breath: Orochi's breath attack is a cone of concentrated ennui that reaches up to a range of twelve feet. It is colorless and undiscernable; making him appear to be yawning on occasions that he employs it against a target. Those caught in the blast have a tendency to recall their unattained resolutions, and either feel an urge to stop whatever they are currently doing (i.e fighting Orochi) to pursue their dreams Or else collapse into paralyzed heaps from recalling their wasted potential. Either outcome would render the unlucky victim(s) no longer in any mood for fighting; giving Orochi an opening to flee or else claim the advantage.

Draconic Magic: Dragons can reshape reality on a whim, bringing their imagination to life. This magic is an extension of this, and after it's first use, must always be used in a similar way. Eventually, a Dragon gains a Focus in their life; their
