General Appearance:
Ren is a nearly grown human kid that stands approximately 5 feet and 8 inches tall. His body is rather average as he’s not toned in muscle, but neither is he lacking it. Ren has short black hair that often appears to be soft and layered. Not much that can be styled with short hair, but sometimes on rare occasions Ren will add gel to his hair to give a more maturity to his persona. Ren’s sea-green eyes compliments his face handsomely as he possesses an impressive jawline.

Ren has no tattoo to speak of, but he does possess a notable scar along the center of his body. Almost like something ran him through once upon a time ago. As such it is an old wound, and Ren has no recollection of it. Other than that, his body remains untouched in terms of coloration or damage.

As for what Ren usually wears, Ren prefers the casual clothing that are comfy to him. Sweatpants are usually seen on him when he’s not in school or participating in club activities. The uniforms are really either for high school or for the kendo club. Nothing special is added to them, not even accessories because both places are rather strict in dress code. Although when he’s not forced to wear uniforms, small things such as chain necklaces of silver can be seen on him. Sometimes the necklace has an emblem that resembles a phoenix rising from below and Ren has a second emblem that shows a blazing fire. Most of the time when Ren is coming from school or even to school Ren carries a tube-like bag that contains a bokken for kendo practice.


Redeeming Qualities:
Dedication ~ If there is anything commendable about Ren is his dedication to not just practice physical activities, but study his subjects and even research on something he doesn’t understand. Even going as far as dedicating whole notebooks in each subject that’s filled with notes.
Compassionate Soul ~ Ren helps people especially when their morale is low. Whether it’s simply lending an ear to listen or a pair of hands if it’s required. He doesn’t seek their approval, nor does he seek any reward in the end. Just that he wishes them the best mostly, as the enemies who threaten lives are often exceptions.
Negative Qualities:
Introvert ~ A shocker to some people, Ren is not an outgoing person. Meaning that to the extroverts Ren is a shut-in and doesn’t accept wild parties or randomly go to the malls and such.
Nosy ~ Due to his compassionate nature, Ren can be seen as being nosy at times. Which can be outright annoying to those who simply want to be left alone.

Ren subconsciously chews on his bottom lip when he’s perplexed with a problem or when he’s deep in thought. This occurs both in the battlefield and outside of combat.

Self-Improvement ~ Ren constantly seeks to improve himself on a daily basis. Both physically and mentally.
National Kendo Champion ~ Ren has a goal to become Japan’s National Champion in Kendo. Even if it is temporarily, at least he can get that far at least once.
Long-term Goals:
Familial Truth ~ To find out more about Ren’s heritage, and what his grandfather really knows.
Be Remembered ~ Whether it is through the national championship or some other method. Ren wants to do something that would inspire recognition of who he is.
General Personality:
If Ren was to be described in a single word, it’ll be guardian. He doesn’t hesitate when it comes to helping others that are in need of it. Dedicated to his work and beliefs, Ren honestly hates combat. The idea of fighting sickens him as it has led humanity to cause more souls to depart on both sides. Thousands of souls cut free in each war, and while Ren agrees with the intention to protect people. He still doesn’t like the notion of fighting and would prefer to avoid it unless it’s necessary to defend himself or others.

Otherwise he has a deeper connection with animals and even prefers birds. Although Ren will admit that he has a personal preference towards birds since he’s raised two of them growing up. Listening to music in general helps him focus, but indie music specifically is his preference. Naturally, Ren appreciates honesty as it shows the person’s integrity and reflects as such. Of course, neglecting to say something is one thing, but lying is something that Ren hates as it affects their integrity. Which means that he can never take anything they say at face value and must always assume they’re lying about something. Therefore, they become unreliable in Ren’s eyes.

Spiritual Awareness: Ren is vividly aware of the spirits that inhabit the Living World. Often confusing spirits as if they’re the living since they’re so clear in both visual and sound-wise. Ren hasn’t attempted to touch a spirit, but he has the ability to sense them through touch if one was to touch him. This can be both good and bad as he would very likely will feel a Hollow chewing on him for example. However, he cannot sense spiritual pressure.

Spiritual Energy: Though not an expert, Ren can harness Reiatsu to form a condensed beam of pale-blue light. This beam is more of a kinetic energy that’s utilized to push objects, creatures, and even spirits away. Of course the beam packs a punch that could stun careless minor Hollows momentarily. But it’s not lethal or damaging enough to cleanse Hollows.

Ascended Reaitsu: Although not trained nor is aware of it, Ren took inspiration from the Shinigami and when Ren is trained. He can manifest a jian into his hand. The jian seems to be made of crystalized matter which takes a pale blue color, yet still sharp and durable as a functional weapon. At the handle there is a crystallized tassel that moves with the same flexibility as tassels normally are.

History:
Ren’s life growing up was fairly normal, all things considered. Ren’s parents, Hajiro and Shakumi, raised him as normal of a lifestyle as a human child can have in Karakura Town. However, not that Ren is aware of this since it happened too long ago for him to remember. When Ren was around 3 years old, July 10 in 2008, Ren wasn’t the only child. In fact, Ren had a younger sister that was only two years younger than he. Her name was Kurumi, and one night a hollow attacked their home. The hollow targeted the children first, and while it did impale Ren’s younger body. The hollow ate Kurumi first before it moved to Ren. Luckily, the Shinigami that was on duty arrived at the scene just in time to save Ren, but not before the hollow had already eaten Kurumi.

Since Kurumi’s funeral, Ren’s parents simply hid every mention of Kurumi’s existence to help with Ren’s grief. The turn of events led to the kind of soul he is today, and the same feeling of helplessness as not having the power to do anything. Ironically enough, after that attack Ren began to see spirits. At first it was just flickering shadows from the corners of his eyes and thought to brush them off. Made himself a bit fearful of the dark at first, but eventually flickering shadows became blurry silhouettes and up to current time where he can’t tell the difference between spirit and human.

Hajiro, Ren’s father, ranted almost daily about appeasing the gods and heavily researching in japan mythology. Ren was interested at first when he was younger, but he was interested in the storytelling itself. Not so much for the stories which Ren didn’t understand until later. So when Hajiro started to repeat the stories for the third time, Ren lost interest in that field and saw no point in getting back into it. Shakumi didn’t want to have another heartbreak after Kurumi’s death, and when Ren didn’t remember Kurumi he didn’t understand as to why she seemed to be grieving.

Ren owned his first bird when he was eight, and it was a female atoli which he wasn’t creative as she was named after the bird as Atoli. Hence his development in loving birds as Ren spent a lot of time taking care of Atoli and his parents did help on a number of occasions. After 5 years have passed, Atoli passed away overnight because Ren’s room became incredibly cold than usual and Atoli couldn’t stay warm enough. Despite the bird’s passing, Ren didn’t feel sad at first. Just that the room felt empty for months after it happened. Eventually, more of a birthday present when Ren turned 14, both of his parents got Ren a baby domestic canary. Even to the current date Ren has taken care of this canary to which he named it as Kana as reference to its species name.

It wasn’t until high school when Ren started to take an interest in romance, and ironically enough it was when Ren began to attend the school’s kendo class. He never understood why it was so sudden, but he developed a couple of crushes. None of which he acted upon so Ren to this day still doesn’t have experience when it comes to dating. Strangely enough, Ren hasn’t made friends with much of anyone. Sure he’s made acquaintances before, but he never considered them to be his actual friends other than just a face in high school. He dedicates his time in practicing the swordstyle with the gifted bokken in his hands. However he refuses to let the kendo class interrupt his time to study and get his homework for the other classes done.

January 21, 2007 - Kurumi was born.
July 10, 2008 - Hollow attacked Ren and Kurumi, Kurumi was killed on the scene.
January 2, 2009 - Ren started to see glimpses of spirits.
August 12, 2009 - Ren progressed into seeing blurry images of spirits.
February 14, 2014 - Ren progressed enough to clearly see the spiritual world and the denizens that wonder the Living World.
March 8, 2015 - Personally training alone in harnessing Reiatsu to his will.
February 12, 2016 - Able to successfully harness the Reiatsu into a beam of concussive force.
July 21, 2019 - Ren attends the high school’s kendo class.

Roleplaying Sample:
Ren watched with a blank stare of boredom at the clock hanging on the wall. The classroom was oddly quiet save for the scratching of pencils and pens on paper. Today was one of those important tests for math to see if the class really learned the material. Ren had already finished the test after ten minutes had passed, but none of them could leave simply because class wasn’t over yet. A soft sigh escapes his nostrils as Ren fights off the urge to take a nap here.

There was no talking allowed in the classroom, but notes were still being passed by one another. None were passed to him of course. Ren might as well be a ghost to everyone in the classroom, and frankly he kind of hoped it would stay that way. It was nice to have a moment in school where things could be so at peace, but like in life all things must come to an end. Eventually the bell rang and almost in sync every student stood up from their seats. From the front of the classroom, Ren could hear Mr.Katsuki speak over the murmuring noise.

“Alright ladies and gentlemen. Hand over your tests, and then you all can head on home!” One by one in quick exchange of hands, the lean gentleman with slick dark hair and in a blue dress shirt with a white-red necktie accepts the flood of papers that were handed to him. While the crowd migrated to the front, Ren closed his books and notebooks before stashing them into his bag. Textbooks of course went into his desk where it belongs. Then slinging his backpack around his shoulder, Ren picked up his test paper before walking up to the front. When Ren handed his test over, Mr.Katsuki gave a grim smile. Out of nowhere, Ren started saying things that he didn’t mean to say.

“Everything alright sir?” Ren suddenly asked the teacher, and frankly the teen confused Mr.Katsuki.

“Is it that bad when my students can see something is wrong?” The teacher inquired, although it sounded more like a joke than anything else. Ren shrugged his shoulders before he responded.

“Not really, it’s none of my business really, but you struck me like something was bothering you.” Mr.Katsuki lets out a sigh as he leans against his chair. Looking up at Ren for a moment as the classroom was now vacant of a living soul save for them.

“You’re right, it’s none of your business to pry into what goes on in my life. But I appreciate you asking all the same. Now I understand you have a club to attend to correct?” Ren nods his head in acknowledgment that Mr.Katsuki was correct about the club. Today was just a team meeting about next week’s plan of activity. So it wasn’t exactly important to Ren, but even if it was if the teacher needed help with something then Ren was more than happy to help.

“I do, but if you want I can help you get your stuff together. Maybe even help carry stuff to your car.” Ren offered as it wasn’t much, but small things sometimes can help their day go by better. This time Mr.Katsuki gave a genuine smile.

“This isn’t your attempt to convince me to give you a passing grade in your test is it?” Of course the teen shook his head, and with a click of the teach’s tongue Mr.Katsuki gestured to the stack of papers and folders on his desk.

“Carry the papers for me, and I’ll take the folders. We’ll be taking them to my car real quick, and then I need to attend my afternoon meeting.” After that, Ren carried the stack of testing papers for his teacher. Then after dropping the papers off into the teacher’s car, Ren bid Mr.Katsuki farewell. Quickening his pace, Ren made way over to the designated dojo as he knows that he’s definitely late. But he really wasn’t worried about it. At least, not until after he arrived that is.
