Desires of the heartless (Open thread)

She was not in the desert. The beautiful emptiness had been replaced by tall trees and thick underbrush. She stood behind the cover of the trees, looking towards the structures so unlike those of Hueco Mundo. These were rough, made of the same materials as the trees around her. Wood. So different from Hueco Mundo. She could not see in the traditional sense. Not with eyes, no. She saw with a sense many forgot, and heard with ears unseen. Unknown to her, her shawl painted the brush crimson as she watched without eyes, two men and a woman moving around.

She had memories of this activity, though she could not recall ever partaking of it herself. Farming. Working the ground in hopes to grow food. A foolish concept. Food was not grown, it was defeated. Subjugated. And finally, consumed with passion.

These souls she observed from afar could not sense her, for they were blind in the way she was sighted, but saw in the way she could not. They relied too much on their eyes. They had some measure of power, but lived to far from that wretched city. Too far from safety. They were untrained. Unskilled. Unprotected. Like so many others... The prey here were weak, but numerous. They struggled beautifully, but inevitably perished in her arms. Men. Women. Children. She knew none of them personally, but inevitably one would wander off alone. And she was waiting. And wherever one came from, others lived too. She had tracked her latest meal's footsteps here. She knew the word for this group.

A family. For some reason, the word twinged a shadow of a memory, but before she could focus on it, it was gone. She knew the word. Family. Not its meaning, or it's value. But that's what these three were. Family.

And, as the air got colder with the setting sun, she moved closer to the family's home. With dexterous fingers not normally associated with her kind, she turned the handle of their home once all were asleep in the single bed. With a smile on her face, she reached out to the three sleeping souls and embraced them. Her lips parted as she lowered her head.

The screams tore through the nighttime forest for miles around.

Reports from the Twelfth Division in the midst of the night. Their instruments, sensitive to even the slightest change in ambient reishi, were set off in the lands beyond eightieth district north. As per custom, a small stealth force was sent out for reconnaissance. Having been awake and active at the right moment, the fledgling Captain overheard the incoming reports. If only to observe firsthand the skills of the stealth force dispatched, he held up the force’s rear, unknown to his Shinigami allies.

Their training made for exceptional timing covering the otherwise vast distance between the Seireitei and the outer limits of Rukongai, all without even breaking a sweat. He couldn’t speak for the stealth force, who were beginning to show obvious signs of fatigue. Their training and discipline, however, forbade them from allowing to to negatively affect their performance, so onward they continued suppressing even their labored breathing.

Before long, he and the group were still. They’d honed their own outward senses toward a particular area and were slowly, and little by little narrowing their perimeter around the targeted area. Their eyes and attention were drawn to a secluded forest home, the occupants no doubt at rest. The silence was pierced by horrific screams of agony that crescendoed to a heart wrenching point before falling uncomfortably silent. Inside, no doubt some denizen of the dark. A foul, wretched beast.

Together, the group of five watched, spaced out as to view the home from most, perhaps every, angle. The Captain of the Third still stealthfully inserted into the group, observing not only their performance and efficiency, but also watching for whatever beast was responsible for such a negligible crime against otherwise unremarkable souls. Was it weak, or was it bored?

Re: Desires of the heartless (Open thread)

Post by Human Hollow on Thu Jan 10, 2019 5:33 pm

As their voices faded into silence, the Hollow rose to her feet. Now, they were beautiful. A part of her. A part of nature, the cycle of strong overcoming the weak. The Hollow ran her tongue over her fingers, licking viscera from between them. Her shawl dripped with blood, her own and theirs.

There was a clacking noise, able to be heard outside in the now too-quiet farm, as she drummed her fingertips to her breast, the bone-like material tap-tap-taping together as she breathed slowly. Her fifteen foot high build filled the small home as she digested her meal. The wide mask that covered her head in a crescent brushed either side of the bedroom.

She was still hungry. So hungry.

But no, not just for sustenance. There was something in this world she hungered for. What, she could not remember. All she recalled was a desire to be here, a desire so strong it pulled her away from the savage beauty of the White Desert. There was something here, someone in this world. Someone she needed to consumed. But whom? She had eaten so many here, tens of men, but none were the one she sought.

The Hollow took in a breath that sucked the Reishi from the air, pulling it into her lungs. Deeper she breathed, her head tilted back, until the air inside the house was thin, nearly breathable. As she did, she ran her fingers over her bust, intertwining her fingers over her stomach, feeling the exposed tendons and flesh contort with her breathing. Then, slowly, a purple orb formed in her throat, it's light pouring out from between her small jaws, sending dancing lights out the house's windows.

Combat:

Human Hollow begins to charge a Cero blast, aimed skyward. At Intermediate level, this takes two rounds to charge. She has not yet personalized her Cero, leaving it as a generic energy beam once fired1.

*1: Cero's power runs off Spiritual Combat. Hers is Expert.

"Shimazu-taicho,"

The stealth force had not been sent out unaccompanied of course. To do so in unfamiliar territory would have been the height of folly. They; as their Captain, were more beast than Man--creatures of instinct who worked as a unit and supported each other in the unending chase of predator and prey. On this, as with many other occasions, their alpha followed--staying within range and yet apart from the group so as to get a wider perspective of what they were tracking...and conversely, be out of range should the predators become prey.

It was his modus operandi for many similar hunts, and one that had served well. If his suspicions about what they were tracking were correct, it would do so again. They could afford no mistakes.

Fortunately, that was at least one other Competent captain at hand.

"Cap'n Shimazu," assisted by Tenteikuura kido, his message drifted to the Head of Third's ear. "This is 10th seat Sakanade of the Stealth Corps with a message from our Cap'n. The quarry you're cornering is unpredictable and dangerous. This is a populated area. We do NOT have permission to engage. First recon's objective is merely to observe the situation and continue tracking the target's position, no more," a brief pause. "Look, I don't like it either, but there's nothin' we can do for the...casualties now. If we storm in with kido blazing we'll put the other humans here in danger. Please hang back and don't get involved, Cap'n. Not unless the situation demands it,"

2nd Division had always maintained friendly ties with the 3rd given the similarities of their vocations. Hopefully her Captain remained in a listening mood.

Re: Desires of the heartless (Open thread)

From somewhere inside the house before the gathering, a spectacular light shone through the windows. Purple rays of light flooded the scene, mixing with the browns of the dirt, greens of the trees and grass, and the whites of all their eyes. Truly, what they should do is sit back and watch, staying prepared for any course of action and reaction.

A message, during the spectacle, made it his way. No doubt with the help of Kido. Tenth Seat Sakanade of the Second Division acknowledged his presence, and informed him of his legal restrictions. More annoyed than grateful, he shrugged the reminder off. The souls out in this direction, sparse as they were, were nothing compared to the benefit of releasing the tens of hundreds if not more of souls powerful hollows contained. If the thing showed itself, it would die. His abilities in particular were very well suited for minimizing collateral damage.

From his perch in the thicket of the forest, he remained shrouded in darkness, eyes and spirit trained on the location just a few dozen feet before him. The light pouring out from the window seemed to reach a peak intensity. He was certain it was some sort of Cero or Baka. He’d seen the attack many times before, and all the same conditions were now met. Their distance from the house guaranteed ample reaction time. It wasn’t so much that worried for himself as it was worry for the group of Second Division corps members with him.

There were a few possibilities here. The blast destroys the house the beast is in, kicking up a dust cloud and initiating a seek-them-out mission. The blast goes for one of the weaker members of the group, in which case Osamu would make it a point to deflect the blast before casualties could be sustained. Or perhaps the blast would come directly for Osamu, cutting straight to the chase. He was prepared for anything, and subsequently eager to carve up any who dared operate such villainy on Seireitei’s jurisdiction.

The Hollow's throat bulged as the Reishi in the air swirled around in her mouth, mixing with her Reiatsu in a ball of energy. Other than being supplemented by her unique powers, the Cero was standard of her kind, though unusual for a base Hollow like herself. Most Hollows needed to be a Menos or stronger to possess the necessary power to fire the Cero. La Aumentada allowed her to consume things without physical form, able to feed on the very air itself. Despite the ability's beauty, it wasn't a filling meal.

As the ball of mixed energy swelled in her throat, growing larger until it finally escaped her jaws, she continued to let her fingers clack against her torso before reaching out and touching the walls of the room. Her send off to a meal, the Hollow's way of thanking the victims for the donation of their Reiatsu to her, was to commit the feeding ground to her memory. Undisturbed after a meal, it would be a site of pure carnal beauty. And, like all beautiful things, it cannot last.

Which is why her Cero was being charged. To blow this place away so none could witness its beauty again. That was true beauty. A thing that lasted only a moment. Like the ever shifting White Desert, whose form was never exactly the same.

Finally, with a sound like a gunshot -another word she knew but could not recall why-, her Cero was fired directly upward, the backdraft of energy obliterating the four walls of the house as a foot-wide beam of purple energy shot skyward, climbing into the heavens.

Leaving her standing alone in a cloud of dust and ash, fifteen feet high. Her bloody exposed flesh dripped crimson fluid on the earth below her, her shawl and skirt having left a trail from the woods to her position where the house had been moments before.

And, for those who could remember from only a few years ago, a tingling sensation in their memories. This wasn't just a random Hollow. No, her, she was decidedly feminine, Reiatsu was familiar. This creature, unmistakably, had the Reiatsu of Thirteen Captain Sabiruchi Tsuyosa, former head of the Tsuyosa Noble Family.

Post by Sithis Monomyth on Fri Jan 11, 2019 6:21 pm

Sithis had arrived back within the Soul Socity. He frowned. His eyes narrowing down. As he saw shot of red light shot into the sky. From several meters away. "A Cero?" Was that an Arrcanar? What the fuck was it doing here. He placed his hand on the handle of his Zanpukuto. No, He won't allow the same crisis happen like he had allowed when Mazaz first came here. He wiltz towards the direction of the source. At top speed. Within minutes he had arrived at the scene. His eyes looked at the scary looking thing. That reshi, he felt. Was the Thirteen... He draw his zanpukuto out. And looked directly into the Head

"You are worthy of the blade." Suddenly. Within a one hundred meter by one hundred meter radius. Heated begun to foam around them. Very intense heat. The heat would become a begin radius and would eventually be filled over the entire Soul Society. It was something about Hollows invading or harming, Innocents did it trigger Sithis so badly. "Bankai" Suddenly. His entire body, it up in Lava. Coated armor. His Zanpukuto was now capable of transfiguring to a Whip, Axe, Sword, Warhammer or a Lance. He pointed his blade at the sky.

"Know Rain." Bulks of Mosiate and condense fields of rocks suddenly begun to materialize within the sky. Into meteors the size of 50 by 50 in meteors. There were only three of them. And Sithis took flight finally. He brought his sword down as if it was a hand. Locking onto the Hollow.

"The moment, you get hit this. You will vaporize. The moment this Attack hits the ground, the Ground Below will be Pure Lava. And will last as long as my bankai is active. " Sithis was so tramuzied, and triggered by that thing being here. That he did not care for the destruction he was about to the within the Soul Socility. This was the exact reason why his Bankai was banned. And not to be used within the Soul Society.

Re: Desires of the heartless (Open thread)

Post by Shiroki on Fri Jan 11, 2019 8:49 pm

Awareness of a third party's appearance dawned just as he terminated Tenteikuura communication: a presence associated with reports, disorder and general headache. His heart sank--literally; seeing as how he accompanied that realization with diving flat for the ground. It would not do to be involved here; or to let his actual rank become common knowledge. Had to stay hidden from the others for now.

At the same time, he was still obligated to fulfil the scout force's primary objective--observation of target--which would've been a normal day's work had not these bystanders made up their mind to get in the way. Throw in the added caveat that the whole thing had to be done with minimal damage to infrastructure or casualties and chances of success steadily dropped to less-than-likely. Especially with you-know-who in the fray

Damn it to hell!

Shiroki opened up a new private communication; this one to the original scout team standing by. "Change of plan: all hounds fall back. Pack, separate and flank. Alpha--split your party in four; appoint Beta representatives and have three teams take up position at east, south and west, a hundred yards from target. You're on point guard at the north. Once there, erect kido barriers around this location. Send in a request to Lieutenant Judai for extra kido support if needed. I want this place locked down. Nobody gets in, nobody gets out,"

And not a moment too soon. Already he could feel the telltale heat shimmers that were a precursor of somebody's shikai ability. Nor did he have to look for the source; it was something he knew all too well. He didn't even have the energy to cuss or roll his eyes when molten hail started pouring from the sky. Had he been a moment slower giving the team their new standing orders, the meteorite rain would've pounded ground zero to debris...with anything that managed to survive the initial shelling falling victim to the ambient heat in its passage. Even with preparations in place, there was no guarantee of containing this disaster or preventing its spread. "Hanzo, you have my position. Make contact with the 4th and put relief teams on standby. We may have to evacuate this sector. Dispatch some seated officers to start rounding up the civilians,"

At least something good came out of being wary. Some called it 'paranoid', but it was really just common sense. It isn't paranoia when something's really out to get you. He watched the stealth team disperse, en route to take up their new flanking positions. Once lockdown was initiated, the immediate area around this freshly obliterated hut would be cordoned off at least until the situation within could be contained without inciting mass panic. Of course, there were downsides. With the area sealed, those within would be on their own.

On their own, and extra extra vulnerable to the hundred and one things that could potentially go wrong. Hotheads took risks. And where there's risk, accidents tended to happen. They happened every day.

His paw went automatically to the sealed baton at his side. The straightforward response is obvious in its simplicity: Go into Bankai, initiate technique Airscape to forcibly draw ALL the surrounding air from this kido-sealed area and concentrate it around his person. Knock out every other non-air-type shikai user caught in the blast zone, AND extinguish the fires in the process. Then casually walk up to and cleanse the unconscious ex-Captain Hollow once he was done. And if certain...miscalculations were made and a particular colleague ended up suffocating to death before he ended the technique? A small price to pay in exchange for civilian safety, really--and a cost that all shinigami from the lowliest recruit to the celebrities up in Zero squad were most assuredly aware of.

Still, best to do things by the book. That way no one could've accused him of not following protocol when crap hits the fan. A lesson that; ironically enough, Captain Hollow had taught him. Back in the days before she became a creature driven by instinct and consumed by the need to devour essence and flesh.

"Cap'n Shimazu: this is 10th seat Shiro again with an update. Situation has changed. Can no longer observe, now that some trigger-happy [Redacted]--Cap'n's words, not mine--chose to go all Zero Squad on that thing. We're pulling our forces back, and they're currently setting up a safety perimeter so...go nuts. I know you want to," He paused before cutting communication. "Just so you know, you're in a fire zone so things are gonna get a little...messy in the next few minutes or so. You MIGHT wanna consider holding your breath,"

There. Duty discharged. Open and shut case; precaution taken, warning given, civilians preserved...everything by the book. Sabiruchi Tsuyosa would've been proud.

Apparently he wasn’t the only Captain tank officer awake at this moment. Maybe the situation was worse than he’d initially realized.

Sixth Division head Monomyth. He was well documented as having an exceptional tendency towards displays of passion. He didn’t know much about Sithis, except that he was a known alcoholic. If Shimazu didn’t know any better, and who’s to say really, Monomyth had just returned from some exhaustive display of drinking and also caught wind of the developing trouble. Certainly he only assumed alcohol was involved, because why else would this beautiful cut of forest be a raging hellscape?!

Not that he objected to the idea of identify, analyze, and engage. It’s just they were hardly through the the identify stage and now they had to blindly skip ahead into engaging. A potentially dangerous situation has now immediately escalated into a certainly dangerous situation. As a sober Captain with honor and dignity to uphold, he remained hidden in the shadowy depths of the slowly burning forest. It shouldn’t be too hard to maintain a safe position while remaining hidden, at least for now.

As far as he was concerned, his mission is and still was to observe. If things got deadly, honor dictated intervention, and dignity dictated seeing the damned thing through. But for now, he’d use Sithis as a surrogate to learn all he can from the opponent all from the safety of his ever burning perimeter.

A follow up message from the tenth seat of the Second Division informed him that they were very much aware of the unique and overwhelming situation at present. Their Captain had ordered the area sealed off in the interest of privatizing these events which were now underway. Though the language was amusing, he’d make sure Tenth Seat Sakanade was properly punished for an open insult against another Captain. He made a note of it.

From the folds of his robe, a powerful and rhythmic buzz-buzz-buzz. He produced the device from his uniform, revealing its display: an update from the Twelfth. Analysis indicated this to be the energy of former Thirteenth Captain-turned-Hollow Tsuyosa. He felt a pressure well in his chest as those senses of honor and dignity briefly resurfaced, replaced then by a powerful distaste and a sinister satisfaction.

He’d relish this.

In normal circumstances, the Hollow would have walked around the area of her recent kill, marking the landscape with her signature red trail, daring others to approach her ever growing feeding grounds.

But, for some reason, everything was fucking burning. And some scrap of food was attacking her. She tilted her head down to 'look' at the creature. Shinigami. Not the first she had seen. This one was attacking her, with something not unlike a burning hand. How irritating. As her bloody exposed flesh sizzled and burned, she felt herself grow new flesh to replace the damage, though it was hurting her faster than she was healing. How... unrefined.

Her lips parted as she hefted the Shinigami upward, using her height to her advantage. In a display of unusual intelligence, her lips parted and she spoke, in a voice deep and regal. "How dare you touch me, you filth. Suffer for your insolence!"

As if of it's own accord, the shawl she wore between her arms unfurled and began to wrap around the Shinigami, binding him to her. Wherever his weapon had made contact, she attempted to bind him there. She breathed in deeply as she felt the intense heat around his body, but pain was beautiful and she pressed on.

And deeper still she breathed, pulling heat, air and Reishi down into her lungs. Lowering her head so there was little but air between the man's face and her bloody jaws, she parted her lips so he could watch the light begin to form down in her throat.

Having went in for the close combat he was so well known for, Human Hollow — as was her code name — proved there was indeed something beneath that horrifying visage of hers by taking advantage Sithis’ dangerously close proximity. Tendrils of fleshy meat shot forth from her body, constricting Sithis firmly in place. The energy in the area shifted, and a second blast began charging deep within her belly. Cunning beast. Opportunistic beast.

He almost felt bad for his comrade. He knew, if only from earlier, a rough estimate of how much time he had before he’d be reduced to a smoldering pile of... not lava. As far as he was concerned, Sithis had plenty of time to figure out how to get himself out of this mess before honor dictated that Osamu step in.

From the depths, he continued to watch. He took in and truly felt the tremendous energy everybody was giving off. He paid attention to the changes in the atmosphere when that she devil charged her blast. He was paying as close attention to all the changes in reishi in the area, making sure to stay light in his feet to dodge the incoming meteors raining from the sky. Around and around he went, the safety of the burning forest all around him.

"Alpha to Captain. The Betas are in position and area is secure. Manuevre: Void is go. You may engage when ready,"

The mental nudge of his squad leader interrupted his reverie. Apparently, preparations for sealing off the location were complete. What a shame. He wouldnt have minded a moment or two longer to analyze the Hollow's attack patterns. And from the simple fact that no rescue or anything else seemed to be happening, he could only surmise that Captain Shimazu felt the same way.

A man after his own heart.

"Do l hafta?" he complained, tossing the nondescript wooden stick that was his zanpakuto's bankai form idly from paw to paw. It said much for his control of spiritual pressure that no one else had even so much as noticed his Bankai release. Unlike most, training enabled Shiroki to consciously manipulate what would normally be an unconscious surge of spiritual pressure and it was a trait he relied on in day to day activities. His Bankai would not manifest in some godawful tornado with accompanying shockwaves and spires of energy. Not unless he specifically wanted it to.

"Captain..." chided a long suffering voice on the other end of the kido communication. His squad alpha could not possibly have heard his complaint through the 1 way channel of course, and so it said much that her response had anticipated his reluctance anyway.

"Fine. Fine, lm going. Sheesh," muttering vague invectives, he got to his feet. So far so good. The target was still engaged in throttling the life out of his colleague, and his OTHER colleague was nowhere near him. He wondered idly if Ceroes operated on the same laws that fire did, and if removing all the oxygen from the immediate area would serve as an effective counter to his fellow Captain getting his head blown inside out. Oh well, nothing ventured nothing gained.

"Meinu no tate: Seascape. 母親の抱擁; Hahaoya no hōyō,"

Mother's Embrace: The second line of defense afforded by his Bankai, it usually functioned as a purely defensive technique that drew all surrounding air in range to Shiroki's location, enveloping him in an impregnable bubble of solified compressed air. However, in situations where the availability of air was an issue--such as, oh say for example when the immediate surroundings have been sealed off by kido, leaving those inside with a finite amount of air without the means of obtaining more--it really was a pretty nasty offensive technique indeed.

Had he remembered to tell Captain Shimazu to hold his breath? He was sure he had. Reasonably sure. Like 90 percent.

Residual fires left behind in the wake of that ill fated assault sputtered and ebbed all around them, a number already cooling to smoldering embers as the oxygen fueling their conflagration steadily leeched away--adding a little at a time to the already opaque sphere of power encasing Shiroki's person. It was not a tactic he could rely on indefinitely, but the beauty in its execution was that he didnt have to. In mere moments, everything in the vicinity apart from Shiro himself would simply go unconscious. Nothing could survive in a vacuum. All he had to do was wait it out.

There was something about Sithis's Shikai that allowed him to do many things. in Shikai he had Absolute Control of Heal, Fire it's varies. In Bankai he had Absolute control of fire, heat, it's variues, lava, magma, melted rock, and attacks that dealt Sun based. Being hit by his attack. Wass stupid of her. Now she was trapped in a fire on her body till she left his massive radius or he removed his bankai. And now the ground was filled with lava. when the other rocks had hit. The meator was a full scale attack. if they did connect. With the target. The attacks would stay on the body consulting burning. Creating damage over time, once the blocks hit the ground lava field would be formed. Her tendrils caught hold of Sithis's Body, and they would begin to burn. He was amazed at how much her tendrils could withstand while holding onto his Lava Armor.

"You're first mistake, being. Your second mistake, touching this armor." His zanpukuto transfigured into a flaming Lava whipped, which he went ahead and sent it her way to wrap around her body.
"You should be extremely lucky I do not use supernova against you." he chuckled. He raised his right hand up, suddenly the lava from underneath the ground, rose up. Towards the tendrils. to form a wall. To Block her Cero. His whip would release holding of her. And the tendrils that held him. Would be melted and taken off his body. Sithis Actually felt if that Hollow was as Smart as Mazazaz. The Fifth Espada. She would be deadly. Though her regenerative abilities, and Herrio Were impressive.

"If that is all you can do. Is absorb reshi like a Quincy, Regeneration's your body, have impressive Herrio. And through Cero. You are no long worthy of the blade." he said, his Flaming Lava Whip Transfigured back to the Lava Zanpukuto. He suddenly begun to feel air being sucked out the place. He best stay in bankai then. To prevent himself being rendered knocked out.

He used his Helm which was made of lava. as a source for his breathing.

He even backed away. Just to see if her Cero would Penerate his Lava Wall. in that case he would raise another one, for additional protection.

Sithis also sensed additional people. It seemed him using his Bankai had arisen attention from the other Captains and Seated officers. He could ready see Lany scolding him. And yelling at him., He wasn't looking to that meeting.

The Hollow's mind went red as her flesh was burned as quickly as it could heal. The heat around her was intense, and it ate at her flesh without reprieve. She felt her shawl burned away, growing back around her waist as quickly as the original vanished. The Hollow's chest shook as she charged her Cero, the heat and Reishi in her throat.

The blast, originally purple but now tinted with a reddish-orange hue, exploded from between her lips driving into the barrier before her. The Cero, mutated by the ambient heat, drove into an parted the barrier, slowly pushing its way into the barrier, the viscous liquid wall drastically reducing it's power as it petered out on the opposite side.

But, then a new sensation took hold of the Hollow. The temperature was dropping, rapidly. The air, which was conducting the heat, was being drawn away from her. She knew not why, but was thankful as it gave her body the time it needed to recover from the blistering heat.

Spreading her senses out, she could feel the energy in the air, being pulled in one direction. Curiosity began to win over her desire to put this child in their place. With a twist of her body, she began to move, pushing her way past the lava in great strides, feeling the fluid incinerate her forearm to the bone as her body rapidly absorbed the heat of it, leaving the single wall of lava a cold, black pillar of glass. Tendrils of red flesh began to crawl from her bicep, growing back over the charred bone. She ignored the pain, drawn by the curiosity of the moving ambient energy.

Combat note:

Lava cannot give off heat in a vacuum, since heat is felt through the air. However, by coming in contact with the lava, which retains all the heat it would normally be giving off, the heat transfers to the cooler zone (her arm), drawing all the heat rapidly as it has nowhere to go.

That which pulled the air from the surrounding area was beginning to also make progress in neutralizing Sixth Division head Monomyth’s Bankai. Towards the outer edges of the battlefield where the hellscape inferno was at its coolest, it began hardening into glassy mounds of obsidian. It had seemed the process was just beginning, and was likely to overtake the entirety of the battlefield in the coming moments. He wondered what effect that might have on Sithis, who donned a cuirass of lava?

With such a chorus of energy in the vicinity, reverberating off the walls of the erected Kido barrier, it was a wonder hoards of lowlife hollows hadn’t swarmed the location yet. Areas of high density spirit energy were well documented to attract hoards of the mindless beasts. Drag your feet instead of taking care of it, and that’s about the time Menos Grande start appearing. As the seconds dragged on, the situation only worsened. After things were dealt with here with the Tsuyosa hollow, he’d see Monomyth charged for reckless endangerment of the natural civilian and wildlife population without prior clearance. Hell, that’s if any of them made it out of this alive.

He’d watch as Sithis chose to remain in close quarters. His power was great, despite his straightforward tactics. He noticed, too, that perhaps his attacks weren’t landing with the force they ought to. No doubt some degree of proficiency in the steel skin trait. Knowing or unknowingly, it made her a tank that not only resisted attacks, but even regenerated from them as though it were nothing.

It was, however, likely possible to overwhelm the creature. Ol Sithis’ abilities did seem to sustain nigh constant damage against her. If her abilities were occupied repairing damage sustained from him, how would her trait respond to a little bit of added firepower?

She chose not to incinerate Sithis with her blast, instead directing it toward the barrier that sealed the trio off. Who knows what chaos could come from her release? Sithis May have compromised their element of surprise, but as far as Osamu was concerned, he still retained an element of surprise. As she strode in the lava towards the hole she blew, he dropped from his perch high in the trees. As he fell, he waited for the precise moment he’d be level with the wretched thing’s neck, and used the trunk of the tree as a platform to step.

Besides, Sithis is in over his head.

In one great push he cleared the distance from the tree, pulling his blade from his sheath as he passed by the fallen Tsuyosa, intending to allow his moment to carry him far past her and back to safety as his blade aimed to lop her head from her inhuman shoulders.

If he had to compromise his location, it’d be for a brief moment only. He’d go back go his perimeter around them and see the results from the safety of range. He’d make sure not to touch any of Sithis’ volatile creations, too.

He had to make a name for himself, after all. The head of this twisted abomination just might help in that regard.

Wait. Was that...ex-Captain Hollow striding his way?

Yes. It was. It damn well was. Which meant Captains 6 and 3 would not be far behind. Yep, 3's reiatsu trace was getting closer. He could not see past this opaque bubble of course--he'd compacted its outer shell tight enough that its component particles of air appeared more white than translucent, its outer surface already glowing from the aftereffect of compressing superheated air into a tiny area. A minor stroke of luck: if he couldnt see out, then most likely anyone on the outside wouldnt be able to see in either...which meant that for the time being his involvement here still remained a secret.

For how long, though: that remained the question. The barrier could not be sustained indefinitely, sooner of later he would have to lower it...and to be honest he was counting on it being sooner rather than later. The fact that Captain Hollow seemed to be immune to the effects of vacuum was almost an affront. The least she could do was keel over and let somebody like Shimazu deliver the coup de grace. Here in this bubble, his options were limited. Although a prime defendable position, his shield being one that could actually harm an unarmed attacker attempting to breach it (thanks in no small part to the superheated air courtesy of Sithis); while ensconsed inside he could not attack directly or coordinate with his colleagues.

To be frank however, at this point Shiroki wasnt sure if he wanted to. All things considered it wouldve been best if hed just stayed out of it from the start, withdrew the team and left the officers there to play with the hollow while he made his report. Everything had gone downhill fast when HE showed up.

Oh screw it. There really was only one thing he COULD do in this case. He had to lower the bubble, if only to relocate a distance from the enemy and regain his bearings. But there was no reason why he shouldnt do it in the most violent way possible. If the Hollow were close enough in range, he could possibly dismiss his compressed shield in a sudden expulsion of force that would send anything in the vicinity hurtling back as the air he had built up and confiscated got suddenly released. For maximum effect, better to wait until capt Hollow actually started hammering at it BEFORE he released all that pent up pressure. That way she would be already injuring herself trying to break through his shell before the shockwave caught her. Unfortunately, the release of pressure would also impact Captains 3 and 6, the severity depending on how close they stood to the source of the blast. Not that he had much alternatives however.

He supposed he owed Shimazu the courtesy of a heads up, though.

"Captain Shimazu. This is an urgent update from my Captain. You may have noticed a glowing white sphere somewhere in your area. You will want to AVOID this object and keep as far away from it as you can, if at all possible. It is an..." how to explain the situation without giving hinself away? "...experimental explosive, and we plan to use it to lure the Hollow close before we set off the bomb, severely crippling if not outright destroying it in the blast. It would be wise to seek cover, we are setting it to blow as soon as the Hollow is in range,"

Warning dispatched, he focused his senses on pinpointing the hollows proximity, wanting to hold off until she was in range for maximum impact.

Combat:
Barrier: Compressed outer shell is currently superheated air thanks to effects of Sithis zan. Likely may burn objects that come into direct contact with it. (Not sure how to calculate damage, possibly a value of Cap 6's SC since the heat and fire effect was his work; on its own my bubble does not damage an attacker

Bubble release: am intending to forcefully release the pressures holding the shell in place, sending the superheated air out in a 360 radius around my person. Anything not anchored to the ground or unprepared for the wave of force generated outward is likely to be pushed back and/or burnt by the effect of sithis superheated air.

Post by Azalea on Sun Jan 13, 2019 5:34 pm

Many miles away, behind great wall and bars of iron, a certain Spirit lay on a cot. Her skin was ashen, more so than usual, from the strain of staying so long outside of her domain. If not for her tie to a younger Togabito, the Sin of Pride would have perished weeks ago in this cell.

She lay on a simple cot, wearing black robes of a Shinigami, though her Zanpakuto and the Requiem sword had been confiscated. She'd allowed that, of course. Just as she allowed herself to have been led to a prison cell, locked up by the Fourth Division, who handled miscellaneous tasks. She wasn't formally under arrest, not yet, and her appearance back in Soul Society had been witnessed by too many people to just execute her on sight. Nobody trusted her enough to allow her contact with her Division, who she had relatively good standing with due to her militaristic and strict orders that had drastically bolstered their strength. So, in a storage room converted to a cell, Kenpachi Azalea lay awake.

She had been pending a formal hearing for her crimes. Some Shinigami had perished at her hands when it was revealed she was a Togabito. Which was another issue Soul Society had, that such a mighty Togabito had escaped Hell. But, more pressing and worrying for her, was that nobody was taking her insistence of an incoming invasion seriously.

Suddenly, the ancient Spirit sat up in her cot. Somewhere, a battle was taking place. She just knew it. She felt waves of powerful energy being thrown around with urgency.

Had the invasion began? Was Tanua, now, marching his vile forces on Soul Society? She ran across the room, gripping the bars of her prison, shouting for a guard, but nobody came. Tensing her muscles, she grimaced. She was near death as it was, her body mostly kept alive off what little Negative Reiatsu she could siphon from the link she'd established so long ago with the Togabito 'Cat'. But, she could not stand here and do nothing when the very forces of Hell marched on those she had once fought beside. She had to do something.

With a heave, Azalea threw her body against the bars, deforming them before shoving her way through with her incredibly dense mass. As fast as she could manage- that is to say, faster than most Shinigami could comprehend- she ran to her weapons and pulled them into place on her body.

The Zanpakuto and Requiem swords wore on her back, a bastard sword and broadsword, respectfully. The serrated blade of her Zanpakuto ran its entire length on both sides, and caught her hair. The faintly glowing Requiem sword was set under this, the Hell-forged crystal blade depicting slowly moving skulls and twisting faces on its red surface.

She ran. Her feet pounded the ground, splintering stone tiles and leaving several inch depressions.

Left. Right. Turn, down this alley. Through that one. Across the streets, around the many twists and turns of Seireitei. It was only a breath of time before she was throwing her body against the doors to escape Seireitei, sending the poor guardman flying, the door splintering into tiny fragments. She took the most direct path through the Rukongai. She had learned not to trust the buildings here to support her weight, instead sacrificing her spiritual energy to create stable footing in the air.

As she ran, Azalea pulled her Zanpakuto from it's place. She knew not what enemy she would face, but she needed all the power she could scrap together. She didn't want to use her Zanpakuto. She'd used and subjugated Saishū-tekina puraido while in Hell, but here in Soul Society, it just seemed wrong to her, after what she'd done last time here. Shaking her head, she returned the weapon to her back.

She was closing in on the site. She could see the faintly glowing barrier in the distance. She closed her eyes, exerting her will over her own biology. She froze in place, a golden fluid surging from her pores. It encased her in a sphere, floating in the air, and she felt as if eons were passing. Her perception of time was heightened considerably. In the span of six seconds, she felt as if several eons had passed in a soundless, light-less, sensation-less void. But then her time ended and the golden egg erupted with a golden armored Kenpachi shooting herself at the barrier. With a slash of a golden sword in her hand, materialized from the liquid she called Ascension that flowed from her pores, a black flame corroded the barrier briefly and she landed heavily near the center of the cordoned off location, on her knees with her sword stabbed into the ground.

She stood slowly, realizing the situation with a glance. She was armored in a way reminiscent of medieval knights, with a visored helmet that covered her head save for her one good eye. The two swords on her back contrasted greatly with what could be described as a saintly knight, wielding a long golden katana in her hand. The ground below her was unstable, and she quickly created a golden pool of Ascension below her to avoid sinking in the lava.

She took in the Hollow, the Captains. One, his back on the fight. The other, in mid-leap in an attempt to kill the creature. And, for some curious reason, she noted a complete lack of air in the area.

It seemed... she had drastically over-reacted.

Post by Human Hollow on Sun Jan 13, 2019 7:22 pm

The Hollow had begun to move faster towards the strange occurrence, eager to find out what could pull away the very air itself. Her fifteen foot high form easily stepped over and past the molten lumps that remained of the farm's equipment. Her arm was not yet fully recovered, but she put aside her pain to sate her curiousity. The hand would regrow, but she might miss whatever this was.

But, without the ambient energy in the air, she was blind as her eyeless face would suggest. After all, how does one perceive without any source of incoming information?

And so, she was quite startled to feel something slice through the thick cords of her neck. She felt her warm blood gush from her body, and her good hand clutched at the wound. Abandoning regenerating her arm, the Hollow doubled over and focused her efforts on healing her throat before she could bleed out.

Blind, and deprived of her sense of hearing in this void, the Hollow mentally cursed this fool who not once, but several times had struck her beautiful form. He would pay dearly for his error.

Combat:
Hierro reduces the Expert damage, allowing her to keep her head. She forsakes regenerating her arm so she may instead hasten the recovery of her latest injury at the expense of healing her burns. As she has no means of perception, the Hollow assumes the assailant is the same as before

Either sense came to him, or his assistance startled Sithis, who finally chose to put distance between the two of them. Likewise, he found himself perched at a safe distance, now at the creature’s back. The thick cords of flesh that worked feverishly to sustain her form ceased to attend to her more menial wounds and instead began repairing the chunk he carved from its neck.

No you don’t.

With a hand, he signaled that Sithis continue his asssault at range however he might. They had proved there was a chance by her reaction alone. Meteors, lava whip. Didn’t matter. If this could be handled before that bomb set off, a lot of scenery would be saved. The only way that would be possible is to continue the assault Sithis began. With numbers and tenacity, they could come out on top without any flashy, dangerous bombs. His weapons by themselves were perfectly suited to burn through the witch’s flesh. Relenting would only result in death.

Despite the warning he received, he hoped the impending detonation would be held off. If only in the interest of protecting Soul Society’s serenity.

With a single arc, he slung the beast’s blood from his ancient blade before sliding it back into its scabbard. Utilizing his ability in a situation like this would be unreasonable. Unless he brought backup into his ability, he’d never be able to handle her by himself. Together, though, they could take turns carving her to bits like a pack of hyenas surrounding wounded prey. He prepared a second iaido strike; his feet propelled him from his perch, across the battlefield a second time. He’d emulate his previous attack on her opposite side. By the end of it, a head would be rolling or she’d wish one were.

Re: Desires of the heartless (Open thread)

Post by Shiroki on Tue Jan 15, 2019 8:14 pm

The opaque bubble of power still presented an obstacle to discerning what lay beyond its boundaries using sight. In such circumstances, reishii senses could only communicate so much. He could still sort of sense the target somewhere in the immediate vicinity: not as close as was ideal, but likely still in range of the blast.

What he could not be 100% certain of however was his colleagues proximity to said blast. The downside of maintaining a solidified shield of air was that the reishii he was currently focused on channeling effectively drowned out other sources in the vicinity, making it comparatively harder to pinpoint the exact locations of those around. Normally, not an issue to be concerned with--he did not need to know an enemys position with the shield present, but including 'allies' into the equation made things much more complicated.

Whatever. Warnings had been given. If the damn idiots chose to ignore them, it wasnt HIS problem. And to make matters even more confusing, he had intercepted a garbled panicky message from one of the barrier teams outside saying that some kind of high-speed object had perforated the seal and slipped through their cordon...which meant that this whole vacuum strategy would soon be rendered next to useless. That status update had been shortly accompanied by a familiar reiatsu spike that was all too familiar: one he could not afford to ignore.

Impossible. She is dead. People l assassinate do not just randomly resurrect and decide to gatecrash sealed zones and get involved in fights against hollows.

Except they did, assuming his senses were accurate. This presented an alarming gamechanger. If ONE person he'd personally seen to dispatching in cold blood could revive from the dead, whats to say that others could not do the same? Staying was no longer an option, with a new element of uncertainty in the mix...one that he could not even be sure of killing

The wisest course lay in retreat. Trigger the violent release of air pressure to force friend and foe alike away from his person, then out through the hole that the newcomer had forced to gain entry. There to coordinate with the barrier teams and add his own bakudo to reseal the breach...permanently, should he be forced to. The fact that two allied captains would be sacrificed to the Hollow AND whatever death defying creature Azalea was mattered little, if it meant sealing off their incursions into reality. Sacrifices had to be made.

And so he abruptly relinquished his hold on the pressures holding his shield of superheated air in place, giving it an extra firm nudge as he did so to release it in a massive wave of force expanding outwards from his person: not merely in a 360 degree circle, but upwards and downwards as well in all directions of 3 dimensional space. Doing so would mean that part of the energy (the one directed at the ground and sky above in particularly) would be wasted without a target...but also tone down the resulting blast just in case certain warning-ignoring colleagues proved unlucky enough to be caught up in it.

Plus, the sudden sensory overload of earth blowing apart in a circular crater around him and air implosion all around would be a convenient distraction, one in which he could retreat with no one being the wiser.

He launched off from the spot he stood exactly as he set off the blast, feeling the ground itself crumble beneath his flash step as he traveled in the direction of inrushing air...presumably where the hole in the barrier was situated.

Omsau, beckon Sithis to keep the assault but Sithis choose to ignore for now. He in a way pitied The Hollow. Even if he hated the creatures. He felt symphony, simply something that would not be felt by the hollow towards the Captains in return. Sithis felt a sudden pressure enter the area. Which presentment itself on the ground with a sword. There was no way. That person should be alive. it was Azala. He had never seen her, He heard rumors of her. He had seen her forms and there was no mistaken behind it. It was her. He looked at Osamu. "You not to attack this female. At no cost." He spoke to Osamu. "You are not to inform the second division of this woman. I am bringing this woman directly to Captain Commander Lany for a mission brief. Anyone who attacks this woman. Is committing treason within the Soul Socility. I Captain of the Sixth Division give the Former Kenpachi, Sanacrty, and Pardon her of all her Crimes. Till she had a one on one talk with the commander. And as of the this fucking air. I've had about enough of this negating. I will make sure air is returned." he said with vemon.

Now Sithis was nevered informed of any form of Bomb. Only Osamu did. He took out his hand. "Let their be AIR! SUPERNOVA!" His Zanpukuto let up in flames. Aza and Osamu were given shields of Sun Fire to protect them from the flesh burning Skin vaporizing flames. Air would finally be returned into this area. Atleast for the moment. The Supernova in this instance was used as a support techquine. To Burn the entire place up in a supernova heat to restore air. Anyone not protected by Sithis's Shield would have their skin being pieled of and flesh and bones vaporizing in the process. Sithis was immmuty to this. He even coated the Hollow in a shield. Enough for her to be only to protected from the blast that was about to expode. As well as himself. After the blast conculded. He would take his shield from the Hollow And fling her two hundred metors away for her to regain her vision and for her to get away. Before Az erased her existance. His eyes scanned the area and drew themselves towards the barrier. "Im not going to make threats. But if you do not take this barrier down. Im going to make sure I will light your fucking division in hell fire. And if you so much to attack the person who has helped us deal with this mess. I will personal end your life. Are we Understood. Captain of the what ever division you are in. You are coming with her. She is not a prisonor. But her and Lany need to have a talk. If anyone attacks this woman, You have permission to attack them back. Her and Lany have a lot to catch up." He lowered his voice. And finally spoke.

"Never thought I'd meet my favitive person. Welcome home, Kenpachi." He said. Removing the shields from them. "You have my thanks for helping us. Your crimes are overlooked till we arrive at Captain Commander's office, then you two can talk about punishments." He said.

"Im very clear. If anyone attacks her. I will kill them. For acts of treason." He said.

There was a lot going on, but Azalea stood motionlessly, eye observing it all. Or, rather, her eye looked far past the scene, unseeing. Still clad in her golden armor, sword in hand, the former Kenpachi was stock still. She didn't appear to be breathing, either.

Her mind had effectively shut down. She felt her consciousness slip away, and she realized her current condition was not dissimilar to the cocoon that housed her whenever she activated her Hell Powers. Her body, unresponsive to any and all outside stimulii, was immobile. On a level, she was curious how the Shinigami would react. After all, she'd escaped prison after returning to 'life,' and then used up all her Spiritual Energy rushing to aid them. She wondered how she didn't notice her reserves were empty, before a thought crossed her mind.

That's right... the link with the young Togabito. By chaining their souls together, they could cheat death, so long as one kept had enough Spiritual Energy left to effectively put the other on life support.

Well, she'd have to wait for her reiatsu to return with time... which was impossible outside of Hell. And her extreme density made it almost literally impossible to move her... What an unfortunate series of events.

The Hollow felt a blade pierce through her throat again, cutting another chunk of her body away. She struggled to cover both her wounds, the first only half-healed, but healing slower now that her Regeneration was split between two similar wounds.

But, before she could react to the stubborn Shinigami's slash, a force knocked her from her feet in a fierce explosion, and pain flashed through her as intense heat wracked her flesh. Some... concussive force, which ravaged her body in heat greater than before. She couldn't feel her right leg, and after a thought determined it must have been destroyed in the blast. Her fingers, too, were not responding. She could feel her arm, but only to the elbow.

Dismembered, horribly seared to the point that steam was wafting off her raw flesh, she was not prepared to be thrown yet again.

Her senses were refusing to respond to her, and she let out a mournful howl, disturbingly base even to her own ears. She was hurt. How did this come to pass? How could a weak little insect of a Shinigami hurt her? He was simply a man, a pathetic man! There was no beauty here, none! This was... this was ugly. And it angered her. But her bloody body, steaming in the air, was in no condition to fight.

Her left hand, the only limb still responding correctly, flicked before her. The air began to shimmer, distorting and cracking, making the area directly in front of her appear to look like a severely glitched, distorted computer image. It took her time to use this power, the ability to physically move to and create tiny Valleys of Screams. If she could, just... touch the distortion, she could escape and heal... then maybe return, in the future, stronger.
