Homecoming (Open)

Post by Azurblauermond on Fri Mar 24, 2017 8:31 pm

Azure walked down the street. She had left her bike at the hospital after visiting her father. He hadn't improved, but she didn't expect him to. Now, she was just walking, trying to clear her head.

She was wearing the typical Quincy garments, but hers were dyed pale blue. Standing at almost eight feet tall in her heeled boots, she was quite hard to miss. However, she walked virtually silent, her heels making almost no sound on the sidewalk. On her back was a large case, shaped like a big box. Inside was her custom bow, which broke into three pieces for easy transportation, but it was under the white board she carried everywhere. She was in Karakura looking for new students for her archery range, and while hanging posters, decided to visit her father in the hospital.

The mute Quincy marveled at how quite the small city was. It was pretty serene. Nothing at all like Kagamino, with its congested streets and high skyscrapers. While she walked, she was eating an icecream cone, Green Apple flavored soft-serve. The cold treat soothed her throat, which was almost always sore. The Quincy wondered if anything interesting happened anymore in this city.

Re: Homecoming (Open)

Closing a cabinet shut in his office, Kei rose and went to meet with two of his elite guard. He hadn't made any new reports on people of note in a while, and his file felt like it was lacking lately, tonight would be a night worth updating it.

A soft breeze blew, small leaves swirled about here and there, but another sense could become more apparent, a sudden reiatsu seemed to be come from nowhere, a shinigami, and by the feel, a strong one. This was definitely not your typical area protector however, and it seemed that it wasn't alone, two more strong reiatsu followed behind, but not like the first. Upon the nearby roof of a taller building, Kei stepped out Senkaimon, followed by two similarly dressed shinigami, who's haori didn't quite reach half the length of his own. The two men stood on either side of Kei, one to his left and the other to his right, both behind him slightly. As they stepped from the gate, one turned to close it behind them. "It's been a while since I've been here", Kei said quietly, the other two nodding in agreement behind him. "What's this though? An interesting individual already?", he added as he lift his hand toward his face as if holding something, though nothing rest in his palm. "Tall, female, Quincy, armed, one I don't recognize."

The two weaker reiatsu individuals moved quietly but quickly, moving to gain a visual on the one that was so nearby. Kei simply moved toward the edge of the roof, he didn't need to get a look at her, he had everything he needed to recognize her from here out. The two were carrying small devices, akin to cameras but seemingly more advanced. As they came into view they made an attempt to take a picture each, as Kei approached behind them slowly. This didn't seem like a man-hunt, rather this seemed more like a means to catalog a stronger reiatsu. Kei wasn't investigating her because of who she was, she was cataloging her because she was strong enough to make a note about. While not directly in view, Kei did not make an effort to hide his reiatsu, he assumed she already sensed him by now, and had no reason to try to hide it out of the blue.

Azure, for her part in these events, was rather calm. She had, of course, sensed the Shinigami appearing nearby. Her own spiritual pressure was suppressed to just above that of the average spiritual medium, those rare few humans with the sight to see spirits. She knew there was no point in pretending not to have spiritual pressure; she was nearly eight feet tall and had lived in the area for years. The Shinigami stationed in Karakura and Kagamino both knew her by sight and could recognize the Quincy robes she wore. She wondered briefly who these others were, but it wasn't her concern. She was here to enjoy the fresh air of the small, peaceful city, and she planned to do just that.

The Quincy let her eyes shift over the Shinigami without focusing on any of them, as if she couldn't see them. She knew that they knew that she knew they were there. But it was a pretense she had formed with those stationed in the cities she called home; I don't disturb your job, you don't disturb mine.

Again, as if they weren't even there, Azure started walking away from them, towards the other side of the street to get closer to the river. There, she set her huge box down and opened it. Her bow was cleverly hidden inside; humans wouldn't know anything was in the box under the white board she took out.

She positioned herself so that her back was to the Shinigami, but the whiteboard was clearly visible. Written on it in simple black font was the words "Should I smile?"

One of the two men turned toward the stronger and spoke, too quiet to hear, but as he came into view it seemed he wasn't looking at her. Kei was staring straight ahead, as if looking at the skyline. He spoke quietly, then one of the two men leaped from the building, landing nearby. He was unarmed, so it wouldn't seem like a hostile move, and as he was not in gigai, no humans would interact. "The sixth division is seeking information", he said quietly, offering a light bow. "It would be better if you came to the roof, so we could talk more openly." With that, the shinigami gestured toward the roof where Kei and the other stood.

With that he turned adding, "The Captain is patient though, so you can act calmly, we've secured the pathway up, no one will see you after you enter the building." They were fast at what they did, they'd been in sight the entire time and only in the town for a minute max, but the man claimed the entire building was secured so the Quincy could freely walk? Additionally, the mention of a Captain added to the oddness of the situation, not often did Captains come to personally look into something, though the peaceful interaction and invitation did strike as a non-violent invitation. This didn't seem like a hostile interaction was planned, though with shinigami, there were so many different types it is always hard to judge how one operates.

The shinigami was close to her as he spoke, just about ten feet away. He had no worry of others seeing him, but it seemed by the way he made the invitation, he didn't want humans suspicious about her either, but his comment followed, "Don't bother readying your weapon, Captain Kusanagi won't like that." This comment implied they knew she had a weapon on hand, furthermore insisted on not using it, but he said nothing about not bringing it. It made sense in a way, no Quincy would leave their weapon lying around where someone might take it. This meant there was at least respect to her interests that she bring it, but keep it hidden. The shinigami would turn and leap back toward the building. It seemed he had more equipment on his belt behind him, unusual equipment, including what looked like a collar. He mentioned Kei being patient, so at least she could take her time making a decision, and act casually, if she were to decide to follow.

Re: Homecoming (Open)

Azure generally didn't like mixing with Shinigami besides the odd joke as she passed the one stationed in Kagamino. It just happened that the Shinigami's patrols made Azure pass her on the nightly walks home from work, and the two had no reason to be hostile to each other, but no reason to be friendly either. Azure felt the occasional joke would ease the tension of living in close quarters to a Shinigami.

But that was back home, and now a group, supposedly consisting of a Captain, wanted her to meet with them. For what, she didn't know. There had been little activity in the area since the Fall of twenty sixteen, with the Battle of Kagamino, as she heard it was called. But there was no way anybody made the connection that she was the instigator; anyone who saw her face was dead. But, she was a Quincy, and it had been a battle between Quincy. Of course, it may be completely unrelated, she thought.

She turned and placed the whiteboard back into the big box, hauling the box onto her back with one arm. It wasn't exceptionally heavy, but it was big, but then again, she was seven ten in height, counting her boots. Without a word, and a more observant watcher might tell, without any sound at all, she turned walked into the building indicated. If it was a trap, her Spirit Weapon would protect her, though she preferred using the bow she carried on her back. But, then again she thought as she climbed to the roof, it took a lot of work to make her own arrowheads in a sufficient supply.

The building was not empty, there were plenty of regular people walking about, but none seemed to pay any attention to the tall woman as she walked. Not more than looking at her with surprise at her height, something she was probably used to anyway. There was an elevator and a staircase, but the elevator only went one floor shy of the roof. It seemed only one floor would have to be walked on foot if she chose. Approaching the elevator though, there was a diamond shape with an arrow on the stairs, not one normally used in buildings. It was the symbol worn on shinigami Captain's uniforms. It seemed no one was going toward the door with the stairs, this might be something they did to give her a clear path to follow. Depending on how she made it up though, there wouldn't be much in the way of interactions from mortals, and the three were easily detectable to be on the roof, so there was little need for her to worry about being ambushed on the way up.

The two men on the roof stood with their weapons sheathed, Kei similarly had no weapon drawn. They were standing idle, Kei's back to the door and the two men facing one another behind him as they waited for the Quincy to arrive. The two were speaking quietly, though the conversation seemed to be in some form of code discussing 'situations' and 'subjects'. Anything heard would not be of any use without knowing what their terminology meant, even actions were replaced with numbers, like police discussing a crime scene so no one could understand what they meant. This group was definitely a thorough group, and one led with the leadership of someone who kept information as private as possible.

Azure reached the roof without incident and stood by the door while she set the large box down at her side. She lightly opened the top, which zippered close due to the box being covered in fabric. She made a palm down gesture as she reached inside. The gesture was meant to mean 'relax' or something akin to it, for all she withdrew from the box was a whiteboard, the size of a typical calendar-whiteboard, though this one was plain. Though it was clean, it was obviously well used. Once more she made the 'relax' gesture, reaching into the box. Initially it looked like she was going to withdraw one of the bow's limbs, but then she moved it back into place, holding a marker in her hands. It had fallen down on her climb upstairs, so she needed to shift through the bow parts to grab it. During all this, which only took at most a minute, the only sound was the box unzipping.

Now, holding her marker and her whiteboard, Azure wrote in large, clear, legible script "What you want" without punctuation. The reason for the improper sentence was due to the whiteboard not being big enough to fit much else in such large print. It may have seemed rude, her using a white board. She had no outward signs of her disability other than the faintest of variation in color on her throat. No strangers would know she was utterly mute.

Re: Homecoming (Open)

Leaning in to Kei, one of the two whispered to him, probably reading the board to him. Kei didn't turn to look, he was still scanning the area from the edge of the roof. After a few moments of silence, Kei finally spoke up, "There's no need for the board now, no one will hear you up here." Clearly he mistook the board as a way for her to keep from regular humans from hearing her, not taking into consideration that it was her means of communication with them as well. His voice was calm, and despite the slip-up with the marker slipping among the bow, no one flinched. It seemed the gesture did the trick, as no one even reached for their weapon while she dug for her marker. The trio was actually quite calm by appearances. Kei turned a bit so the side of him could be seen, his sword was oddly straight, something almost no shinigami seemed to carry, and he spoke his introduction. "I am Kei Kusanagi, Captain of the sixth division. Please excuse my informality in asking, but what is your name, Quincy?"

Arms at his sides, Kei definitely didn't look like he was trying to pick a fight, and the two followers he had with him acted similarly neutral on the matter. They didn't speak, and in fact remained mostly motionless, one occasionally looking out in the distance and snapping what might be perceived as random photos. While definitely dressed as a Captain, Kei's posture and informality seemed a bit off for someone claiming such a rank. He didn't have the arrogance of some, nor the pious wise look of others, rather he seemed rather casual in a sense. Kei wasn't tense, nor staring daggers at a Quincy, it was actually hard to tell what his intentions really were just by looking at him. One of the two men would lean to speak to Kei, before Kei would give a subtle nod, adding, "Excuse him, he'll be back in a bit", before one of the two men left. There was still no clear identification that Kei was blind, he seemed fairly confident on the roof's edge, so just watching him made it seem like he could see where he was standing.

Azure shook her head, bringing her hand up, fingers flat and made a side-to-side gesture near her throat. She could sign in Japanese, German and American-English, and, though it was rather quick, she used sign language- the most common variation on Japanese sign language- to say she couldn't speak. She knew most people couldn't communicate via sign language, so she wrote on her board both an explanation, and an answer.

Aphonia, Cerulean. She used the name most often associated with her human identity, due to her owning and operating The Cerulean Arrow, her archery range outside of Kagamino. She wondered as she held the whiteboard if the Shinigami would know what Aphonia was. It being a medical term, quite a number of people didn't, but it was the condition she suffered from. Her voicebox and vocal cords were completely burned from Reishi exposure, not that human doctors knew about that, robbing her of all sound.

Azure knew little about individual Shinigami, but knew about armies. If this man was a Captain, he held a high ranking position, and these must be his subordinates. They must be well trained, she thought, to be so obedient and focused on their goals, whatever they were.

The man whispered once more, probably relaying the message from the whiteboard. Kei sighed softly and nodded, "I understand I believe. I heard that there was a new Quincy in this area. Furthermore a recognizable one that seemed non-hostile toward shinigami. I hadn't expected to meet you so quickly, though I'm a bit curious." He turned toward the Quincy, eyes remaining closed as he spoke, "I'm assuming you heard about what happened in Kagamino." Kei's presence was strong, not that he was trying to flare his reiatsu, but his simple line of questions were vague but directed toward specific scenarios. He wasn't giving up any information about what he already knew and what he didn't. "After all, I'd be disappointed if a Quincy as strong as you hadn't heard about it by now. I want your details from that situation."

Standing much shorter than the tall woman, Kei still had a certain threatening aspect to him. People with such high reiatsu like them didn't need to be physically big to be strong, she may look more threatening if compared visually, but anyone who knew about reiatsu would immediately recognize they were on a very similar level, size was irrelevant between them. Kei's deliberate movements and line of questions though reflected his determination for information. While not the researching type, it was clear he was the investigation type. Kei was acting just like a police officer in some regard, wanting to hear all sides of a story so he could gather information. This may not have been an ambush in the traditional sense, but he'd already pulled her into a type of trap, refusing to answer now would commit that she was probably guilty, but with his minimal details, it would be hard to lie without knowing what he did and didn't know already.

Azure had to use her whiteboard to write several broken phrases to tell the story. After each set of words, she would erase and write the next after confirming the Shinigami had read the message. She assumed the Captain was either blind or had less than quality vision; his partner only whispered if she wrote, she had noticed.

Quincy fight. Many Hollows. Quincy casualties. Shinigami contained fight. Hollows killed. Memories replaced.

Her broken phrases were minimalist by necessity. Before she finished, she wrote another message, I, grieving parents @ time. the letters were cramped on the board.

The Quincy's assumption seemed fairly safe, every time she wrote, he did in fact whisper, and didn't seem to say much else. Kei's head suddenly turned slightly as if he sensed something, though it seemed extremely far away. The shinigami had left seemed to be coming back, and based on Kei's subtle reaction, it was pretty clear he too was extremely precise when using his sense of reiatsu detection. It was no wonder he was so confident on a building top, much less the edge, when blind. With senses like his he didn't need sight, it almost became redundant. Even for the Quincy, she probably could sense things before she saw them during a fight, so it would be easy to assume he had the same reaction time as a sighted person, if not better than some.

"My sincerest apologies for your loss." Kei's words felt very genuine, a shinigami genuinely giving condolences to a Quincy was considered fairly rare though. Turning, Kei began walking as the third shinigami came into view. "Your reiatsu will be relayed to our research department, your image will be on file. Report to the local shinigami if you have plans we should know about. Provided you remain peaceful though, the sixth division has no grievance with you." The third shinigami arrived and opened the senkaimon, the doors sliding open slowly. The second shinigami kept an eye on the whiteboard just in case she had anything left to add.

A brief thought dashed through the Quincy's mind. This Shinigami wants information, but didn't know that she had plenty to offer. Hastily, she wrote on her whiteboard, the script slightly messy in her hurry. Trade 4 info? She tilted her head, pink hair falling down to one side. Her eyes were wide as she looked to the Captain, her attention on the man who would be able to make decisions rather than the relay man.

What she had in mind was simple, and honestly quite fair. She wanted some things, the Shinigami wanted information. It was unlikely they had any other Quincy willing to share information with them, so she felt she had a good shot at getting what she wanted. But it was a big if when it came to getting what she wanted. But, if they wouldn't trade, she wouldn't talk. And there was nothing the Soul Society could do about that; she wasn't answerable to them.

Taking a step toward the senkaimon, Kei stopped, the one who opened it closed it, though none of them spoke this time. It was as if Kei knew she'd react, and this was a bluff. A smirk formed as the one read off to Kei what it said on the board, but he kept speaking for a few moments quietly following. "A trade? What do you have that would be of interest to me? I'm the Captain of the sixth division, and that means I get a lot of my information directly from the investigation departments of the Gotei 13." It was clear in his words that he was already bargaining, he was downplaying the value of anything she could offer, so she'd have to offer more simply to keep his attention. Though this bluff had additional value for Kei, this sudden reaction meant she didn't want to be known. "Though I have to wonder more, what would you want from me?"

Kei turned, his hand resting on the handle of his blade, though it didn't seem like a threat, more like a casual way to rest his arm as he faced the other. Kei's reiatsu didn't shift, if anything the only change was his demeanor seemed much more jovial than before. He figured something out about her beyond what could be determined at first glance. Kei had something more on her that wasn't clear, had he figured out her involvement with the incident, or was his suspicion great enough that she'd be investigated much more thoroughly. What other secrets could he possibly have figured out? This was the fear of two powerful beings communicating, they could grab information from even the simplest movement, and Kei had very little to lose in this particular conversation.

Azure set her whiteboard down on her large box, reaching into the folds of her clothing and produced a very basic cellphone. For a moment, she went to her apps until she had activated the text-to-speech option. When she began to type, the little phone said in a clear, slightly feminine mechanical voice everything she wrote. It was faster than her writing, especially when she wanted to get her point across.

As she typed, the phone spoke for her, "I know the names and locations of many Quincy. They are outcasts. They are a cruel group. Bad for Soul Society, bad for me. They're too far for me to reach, but Shinigami are more capable at that. I also know where to find Hollows that are trouble. Powerful Hollows. I can give you information on Quincy powers as well. But only for a trade."

Azure paused. She was unperturbed by the Shinigami's behavior; Shinigami wanted knowledge. She wanted him to know she had valuable information on known enemies of Soul Society. Then, she continued to type.

"These are the items I desire. One piece of information per item would be fair. I want: broken pieces or chips of an Asauchi blade," she didn't pause after revealing she knew the name for the unclaimed Zanpakuto, "A two foot cube of Sekkisekki stone or larger, iron or steel forged in Soul Society, two cords of wood from trees outside Rukongai, any Quincy artifacts that can be given."

Now the large woman fixed her stare on the Captain. She wasn't tense, but she was eager to see if he'd willing part with any of these things.

Re: Homecoming (Open)

Waiting in silence, Kei turned slightly as the sounds came from the Quincy, though no words were exchanged. Hearing the voice caused a slight smirk to form again, technology sure was fascinating in the human world. Where Shinigami didn't bother coming up with such clever minute details, the humans have developed entire devices to combat the drawbacks of disability. What a novel way for someone without a voice to be heard. As the demands for trade rattled off though, Kei's face slowly dropped, it was not amusing, rather almost insulting by the expression he carried. There was such a high price on such information that it seemed to draw a look of suspicion on Kei, though that changed rather suddenly as he spoke.

"I find it interesting that you would be so willing to sell out fellow Quincy, even at such a high price. If I recall, the Quincy incident was all about a Quincy who was angered at fellow Quincy. You think we don't track Quincy? Why do you think we have so many Shinigami stationed full time in the human world. I don't have a record of you, but since you exist in a town with Shinigami stationed, someone does. My records are specific to my specific needs though, I knew you were here before I arrived, but I didn't know any details about you that I needed to know. Furthermore, even if I was authorized to bring those things, if I was authorized to use them as trade, I still would refuse. Any Shinigami who had that kind of access would refuse, those items individually are worth more than all the information you've promised." Kei lifted his head as he spoke though, still his expression was one of suspicion, he definitely had more silent suspicions he hadn't mentioned.

"I wonder, the person you were visiting, it was also a Quincy", Kei said quietly while looking toward the hospital. "Which means you must be locked to this town if you want to be able to keep near to him. You would try to bargain with a man who knows as much as I do, knowing that I could just as easily go to other Quincy and reveal your location and intent to sell them out? Don't think of me as being the monster who would attack an injured parent, but that doesn't mean I won't use the fact that you're linked to him and by extension this place, as a bargaining chip." Kei laid it out on the line, it was clear he suspected her of the attacks in Kagamino. While he had no proof to make any formal arrest, his suspicion alone was enough to use against her high trade offer. "What is that worth to you I wonder, because this might turn out to be a bidding war for who wants to give me information more."

Azure narrowed her eyes at the at the Captain and began typing rapidly into the cellphone. The voice, however, continued at the same monotone, even pace.

"I have no love for the Quincy. Quincy murdered my mother and put my father into a coma. My parents were good, honest Humans. There's nothing you can do to my father that would force information out of me; if he died, he would live again in Soul Society. That would be an improvement to his current health."

Once she explained that her father was in no way leverage to this man, she continued. "I just want to live my life. The fights between Shinigami, Hollows and Quincy do not concern me unless I'm drawn into them. But, I do know that the Quincy hunt down impure Quincy, half-bloods like myself. The Kagamino incident was most likely this. Regardless, your people may be aware of the Quincy," Azure paused, shifting her gaze between the Shinigami, then looking towards the river. "But I can get you a Quincy today. One who has been killing Hollows and Shinigami for a very long time. And all I want in exchange is any of those items. Or," she stopped again, leveling the Captain with an intense gaze. Her eyes, so pale they were almost white, were as cold as ice. "You can pay me, in Kan from Soul Society, to hunt down the troublemakers and bring them, alive, to you. Hollow, Quincy, rouge Shinigami, that weird monster that's been roaming Karakura for the last four months. Whoever, whatever. If you won't trade, perhaps you'd be willing to pay."

Azure figured that if she could be paid for her services in capturing dangerous beings like these, she could simply pay for whatever she wanted from the Shinigami.

She was going to await his reply, but then another thought struck her. "No matter how greatly you overvalue your things, you cannot undervalue this information. The pure-blood Quincy have multiple bases in this world. But I know where their headquarters are. And I know how to get there. That's something that the Gotei has been wanting to know for a very, very long time. And Captain... Don't you dare involve my father in this discussion again. If even one Shinigami visits that hospital in the next month, they will not be reporting back." Her gaze was ice, and she let her spiritual pressure rise, easing off the suppression she was using before; hers was easily on par with the Captain's own. She had never killed a Shinigami, but she had no problem shooting anyone who got in the way. She had dropped the personality of Cerulean; though the Captain didn't know it, he was now dealing with Azure the Quincy. "And remember, Captain. I'm under no obligation to give you anything. I don't answer the Gotei anymore than I do the Vandenreich."

"You take me for a fool. In one hand you offer information", Kei said as he turned his back, "And in the other you give threats against Shinigami." Kei sighed as he gestured with his left hand, some code probably. "You overvalue your information far too much it seems. I won't hide that I suspect you were involved in Kagamino, and in fact I further suspect you orchestrated it. I can't currently prove that, but  with my information in addition to the information taken from the remnants, should be enough to determine if you were. Ironically your only crime in that situation was use of hollow bait. Killing your own Quincy is not something that concerns us, it's not our business. If the Gotei determines you were guilty, don't be surprised if they contact you to reprimand your use of the bait, but additionally you'll receive one more contact from my men, a final chance to discuss with me before your location, the location of your father, and your identity, and this conversation, are all brought to other Quincy."

His hand still resting idle on the top of his sheathed blade, Kei still didn't look as if he planned to draw the blade, rather this seemed like a reminder that this was intended to be peaceful. A warrior always remained armed, their weapon was an extension of their being. It was normal for people who had mastered their weapon to feel a connection to it, and Kei seemed to be in that boat. Though with his eyes closed and his deliberate movements, it was difficult to determine if he was bluffing about his words, his actions still pointed toward non-violence. The Captain did not generally look for a violent solution, part of the reason he didn't join most of the divisions he qualified for. Though something was definitely off, while Kei turned like he was about to leave, the other two stood motionless, waiting silently. Again it seemed like Kei didn't want to abruptly end their discussion, though it was possible Kei was giving the Quincy time to type her response, after all he had noticed it took her a bit longer to communicate with him, so it would be rude to leave while she was formulating an answer to his words.

"I assume you think you can trade money from me to buy the things I won't trade, but to me that means the same thing, you won't find anyone who will trade such items though. The items you request are never leaving Shinigami control. Would you be willing to give your weapons to us? Give us the ability to analyze and deconstruct how they work, in an attempt to make a shield designed to block them? Would you be willing to give us tools that specifically cut off your strength?" Kei shook his head, he didn't need an answer. Quincy and Shinigami definitely didn't see eye to eye on a lot of matters, some considered them violent enemies, others political opponents, Kei seemed to fall into the second category fortunately. Though this left this reminder, Kei did know there were Quincy who murder Shinigami, and vice-versa. To trade weapons was considered a war crime by some, probably for the Quincy too. Even making the offer, Azure showed her cooperation with Shinigami was stronger than most Quincy, but Kei would not have a Quincy holding such powerful Shinigami tools. Perhaps he would have traded the Quincy items they held, artifacts who's research has been completed with, but even that was dismissed as being more valuable than information offered, Kei seemed to have more cards in his deck than he was revealing.

"You threatened my father's safety first, Shinigami." The computer voice said. Azure continued to type, "By threatening to use him as leverage against me, that was a threat on his safety. I replied in kind. And as a matter of fact, I would give you information on how to disable Quincy powers and abilities. I'm content living a normal life in Kagamino while you and the Quincy butcher each other in so called peace."

Azure, truthfully, did enjoy her life. She took pride in her archery range, in teaching youths. Her only reason for having mastered her inborn gifts was to get revenge for crimes against her and her family.

The cellphone's voice continued, "Your Shinigami in Kagamino can confirm that I was not in the City at the time of the attacks. They're very familiar with my schedule, for it coincides with their own patrols. You can question them if you desire, but I never reentered Kagamino until two days after the attack, having been shaping new arrows for my students. I own the Cerulean Arrow archery range."

Azure turned her eyes on the Shinigami again, not looking as she typed. "But, if any Quincy come to Kagamino looking for me, their deaths will be on the Gotei's head. I am not defenseless. But, if you're unwilling to trade, or pay for the information, I will seek elsewhere. But remember, Shinigami, I have gone this long without the items, and I can continue to wait. However, your enemies grow stronger the longer you go without information on their movements. Your men wouldn't ever be able to tell you where the Vandenreich are until after their attack has succeeded."

Azure dropped the hint of an implied attack casually. She knew the Shinigami would want to know more. Having knowledge of the Sternritter's movements and plans was her biggest bargaining chip. Though, it wouldn't help if the Shinigami knew that her information was most likely outdated. After all, only a fool would stick to the same battle plans after one of their leaders was killed. She had no intention of letting him know that, though.

Then, Azure turned her head to the side in a very dismissive manner. She typed out, "But, I suppose I couldn't expect you to trade items to me, or appreciate the information I'm offering. You may have rank, but it's clear you're not in charge of anything more than menial labor. If you people want to know about the Sternritter's plans, you can find me at the Cerulean Arrow. Your man in Kagamino knows the way."

Azure turned to leave, putting her back to the Shinigami as she picked up her box. With her dismissal, she had flipped the tables on the Shinigami. Know she was in control, whether he knew it or not. First, she had made it clear that she didn't need him. Then, she offered tactical information that would be a major help to his people. And by making it seem she was leaving, she gave him few options; either risk not having the information, trade with her, or show that she was right by getting somebody of greater authority to speak to her. And, in the latter two cases, it established that he needed her, not the other way around. As she had said, she didn't need any of those things; she'd live without them. But as far as he knew, he might have to get that information.

"Do you know what separates my division from all the others?" Kei said as the two Shinigami turned, one of them reopening the senkaimon. "I'll tell you, since it's clear you don't. While other divisions work toward fighting Quincy and Hollows, mine is special. The sixth division focuses on attacking Shinigami. My division hunts the Shinigami who break our rules, I simply keep tabs on Quincy to coincide their stories if they blame you. You're not valuable to me, just your intentions are. You've already told me everything I care about for free. You're not anti-Shinigami, you are anti-Quincy. You are trapped in this town, and were no more than two days away from Kagamino during the incident. That means if anyone claims they were dealing with you more than two days travel from Kagamino, they're lying. That's your worth to me, a confirmation for a /possible/ lie. The peace or war between Shinigami and Quincy has absolutely no consideration in my mind, it's not even worth discussing in my division."

Kei couldn't help but chuckle, not the most expressive person but to think this person had given names, locations, intent, desires, and all for free. "Do you know why I goaded you into speaking and dropping veiled threats? So I would know if there were more items to have watched to make sure no one was bringing them out of the Seireitei." His deck was revealed, he didn't care about the information she promised because it didn't pertain to him at all, but now there were records that she had it, how strong she was, her lack of alliance with other Quincy. The Gotei 13 may not know how many Captains it would take to get information from her, but it knew how many it would send if it had to. The information could easily be passed to all the Captains, and however many of them thought it was valuable not only knew where to find it, but how to force her to come to them. They also knew how to get other Quincy killed without risking their own men.

"I suppose I should thank you for your information, but your brash attitude has left a bitter taste. Maybe next time you won't try to dangle fruit to someone who's already sapping the roots. Rather, next time you should know more than you think you do about the person you're speaking with, before saying as much as you do." One of the two men passed through the Senkaimon, then the other, "Thanks for making my job easier though", he added with a nod, having no further value to gain from the conversation, standing before the Senkaimon. Unless she tried to physically stop him though, he'd step through before she had time to type out any form of a response to his words.

Azure heard the Captain speaking, but she shrugged. As she had said, she didn't need him. And if he didn't need her, so be it. He may think she had given him information for free, be he was infinitely wrong on that account. The hidden compartment of her box sought to that. She was coming away from this conversation with something, after all, far more valuable than the information he thought he had obtained.

As far as she was concerned, this Shinigami was useless to her and could be scratched from the mental list of obstacles in her way. He wouldn't be a danger, let alone a threat. He may believe himself high and mighty, but it was apparent to the Quincy that he served no purpose in the World of the Living. At best, he was a nosy person. But, before he stepped through, Azure lobbed something behind her, almost carelessly. It would go in a high arc to the Captain, landing directly between his feet unless he caught it midair. As the item went through the air, it gave a howl almost identical to that of a screaming Hollow. Whether it landed or was caught, it would be a rounded, dulled arrowhead, with several holes in its bulbed surface. Interestingly, the holes were placed in a series of patterns. Upon inspection, the holes would match up with braille, but instead of being raised dots, they were holes in the surface of the arrowhead. When read, it wrote 'Cry.' Tucked into the bottom of the arrowhead, where it would screw into the arrow shaft, was a piece of paper, this one containing proper braille as well as clear print below. She always included both on anything she wrote, in case one was wrong. The paper said only the name of the Shinigami for Karakura Town and no further explanation.

Azure had a personal grudge against the Shinigami in charge of Karakura. She blamed him for the attack on her family. But further, she suspected he was either corrupt, or just significantly lazy. She had intended to give the arrowhead to the Shinigami of Kagamino, to see if the one of Karakura was actually doing their job. She'd noticed that there was a significant number of Pluses in Karakura, who by all rights should have passed on by now. If the Shinigami wasn't doing his job, that would attract Hollows, which would attract Quincy. She didn't want Quincy so close to where her father was. But, she wasn't going to tell the Captain any of this. Let him make of the note and arrow what he will. By having kept him talking, she had already gotten what she wanted here.

The Captain's hearing, sense of detection, ability to anticipate behavior as an investigator, and reaction time were suddenly put to a test, and just as the object came within arm's reach of Kei, he vanished from sight. His reiatsu spiked for just a brief moment, but then vanished entirely. Nothing, nowhere, he was just gone. The senkaimon was still there and the door was still open, but one thing did change. A slight flash of light in the arc of the arrowhead, before it fell to the ground split in two, cut clean through. The senkaimon shut with a snap before a blade would suddenly appear out of literal thin air, followed by a hand, then Kei, holding the blade backwards, tip aimed up at the Quincy.

"You know, I'm not sure what you just threw, but the idea that you would do so feels like a challenge to me." As he spoke though, there was no movement, no breathing, in fact the voice even came from all directions. He was completely still like a statue. Worse though, his reiatsu was still completely gone, or rather it felt like it was everywhere, then nowhere, then everywhere, in slow lingering pulses. "Was it some trinket or were you trying to slip something into the Rukongai? The reason I ask, is that becomes my jurisdiction to draw my blade, something I'm not normally allowed to do in the human world." His entire existence was skewed, nothing about him felt real anymore, Kei was an enigma, though his blade remained like it appeared it would in the sheath.

Kei's shikai was unlike almost every other Shinigami. Even the most advanced Quincy probably had never even heard of a shikai that didn't change it's appearance in the slightest, even if some knew about zanpakuto that weren't traditional katana. Most Shinigami even prided themselves on how the change was such an important detail, however, Kei's movements almost appeared to just be that of an assassin working an angle. Even making the assumption he had his shikai active would be a huge leap, but what made it worse was how nothing else seemed to change except how he moved and spoke. No flashy effects, one might even attribute his sudden vanishing act as hohou since his reiatsu flared as it happened. With her back turned it would have been impossible to see what he did, but his ability to trick the senses would seamlessly given the impression he used shunpo and was just ready to strike again.

The moment the Reiatsu spiked, Azure had whipped around, holding her left arm straight out. The sudden movement made her heavy bracelet be revealed, and on it dangled a ten pointed star, two Quincy Crosses fused together. Azure hadn't released her weapon, but she stood, poised, as if she was holding a bow. Her own reaction speed was incredible, having turned on her heel mid-stride and leveled her arm at where the Senkaimon was.

She heard, rather than saw, the arrowhead fall onto the rooftop. She hadn't reacted to his hostility though, or even to the flair of power. Rather, it was simply a reaction to unease. In her right hand, she was holding another arrowhead, this one incredibly wide and extremely sharp. She held it by the screw, holding it like a dagger straight out. Her left arm was still held towards where the Gate had been, but the arrowhead was held towards the unmoving Captain. She had already decided the body before her was either false or useless; it was unmoving, even while he spoke. She decided she could safely ignore it, and so she side-stepped the body.

Azure rationalized that the Shinigami had an itchy trigger-finger, or in this case, a sword hand. While the arrowhead was startling, by itself it would be completely harmless. And it had obviously been aimed at him, rather than the Senkaimon. In her mind, she wondered if he was compensating for something by being so touchy.

Still though, she was unconcerned. She didn't answer to the Shinigami, and in this case she couldn't answer his question. Shinigami had no power over her, and if this one felt like flexing his muscles against someone two and a half feet taller than himself, he was in for a beating. She doubted she'd have to use her Spirit Weapon. No, if he came at her, the arrowhead would be enough.

The Hollow-Killer arrowhead felt hot and heavy in her hand.

Just as she passed by the image, the left hand silently moved, no reiatsu, nothing to detect without sight. As she was looking toward the senkaimon, she would not see it moving. As it made contact with her shoulder lightly, Kei spoke again, "I asked you a question, I will wait for you to type your response if you need time." Though the hand was no longer on her shoulder, if she were to look again she would see him standing as if he still had a hand on her shoulder.

While she may not have seen all the possibilities Kei saw in that subtle action, he knew of people who would try to do exactly what she just did in an attempt to slip things into the Rukongai. He knew nothing was what it seemed, just as he suddenly wasn't what he seemed. Just as she didn't anticipate he was standing in his own fake image, a trick that often left people open who were smart. Like tricking a magician, all one had to do was set up an obvious trap that wasn't a trap at all. This showed he was able to strike from anywhere without warning.

"By the way, I find it interesting you'd draw a bow against me. While I'm specialized in fighting Shinigami, my skills make ranged attacks almost impossible. You'd be better to draw something non-ranged if you plan to attack me." Just as before though, this could be a ploy. Was he goading her away from his weakness, or giving away his strength in hopes she'd think he was? It definitely looked like he would be strong against ranged attacks with this kind of ability making it difficult to aim at him, but was there more to it that made him more vulnerable?

"I should mention, I am asking because I'm blind", he added, confirming any not-quite-confirmed suspicion she probably had from how he hadn't been reading her whiteboard. "Throwing something toward a blind person that sounds metallic and sounds like a hollow wasn't the best idea if you expected me to keep it safe." As he said this though, one of the two halves of the arrowhead vanished from the ground, completely ceasing to exist.

"Do you write in braille?" The words were clear, he had half of the arrowhead, he was investigating it now. While he couldn't make out the word from only the half he had, he at least made out a distinct character of braille on it. Then it became very clear. He was able to move in or out of his images without revealing himself. Kei was able to be completely invisible, senses didn't work on him. This was possible as a shikai, but it still didn't feel like one. The reiatsu felt like it always had, though spread out to be everywhere. The time though that it took for him to speak was about how long it would take to walk over and pick up one of the halves, a few seconds. Kei wasn't even trying to fight or hide, he was walking around in plain view but was completely masked.

Azure didn't flinch when her shoulder was touched. One did not become a hunter of highly trained Quincy by being jumpy. She instead thought of the situation, her mind leveling out a couple options. Either, the Shinigami could create these images to fool her by tricking her senses into looping still frames of himself, or he was simply able to move about unseen with the still frames being after images left whenever his body came to rest. She knew high speed movement could accomplish that, but the Shinigami didn't seem like a speed-type.

Azure still hadn't summoned her bow. She had decided she wouldn't need it. If it came to blows, only a single arrow would do. She had almost never needed more than one arrow in the past. And her Hollow-Killer arrowhead was long and wide enough to be used as a dirk, a short dagger.

Slowly, the Quincy woman lowered her right hand. Her left hand, still braced and ready to summon her bow if she needed it, was no aimed to the left of the arrowhead, level with where the man's chest would be if he was standing there. She slipped the arrowhead into a hidden pocket, her fingers typing on the cellphone there.

The phone's voice spoke for her. "A note. For you." The mechanical woman's voice said. Then, there was a short blip as the phone vibrated in her hand. Another voice came from her pocket, however this one sounded incredibly like the Shinigami before her, albeit it was slower and slightly off, as all recordings tended to be. The Shinigami's voice spoke, loudly, "Voice analysis complete. Would you like to set this voice as your default text-to-speech option?" The voice's question hung in the air and Azure noticeably slumped her shoulders. She had planned to be downstairs by the time the voice was completed. Leave it to technology to fail when you needed it most, she thought.
