Musical Malady (Open)

Post by Sabiruchi Tsuyosa on Tue Jan 17, 2017 1:30 pm

" 'It'll be good for your image'," Sabiruchi muttered under her breath. "'They'll look up to you. And maybe they'll start to forgive you.' Yeah right, Commander... I feel ridiculous... I can't believe I'm going to fucking do this..."

Sabre Tsuyosa stood in a shadow between two busy streets. She was in her Shikai, dressed only in a leotard of white and shoulder length gloves. She was shoe-less. Her hair was blue, with two very long strands handing over her shoulders. At her feet sat three automatons. One was a microphone, which crawled up to curl around her neck like a snake, the head just far enough from her mouth. Another was an electric guitar, human-shaped, with hands that could play itself. The electronic keyboard was likewise humanoid. Sabiruchi took a deep breath, breathing through her nose. She was nervous. She didn't do these kinds of things. It, it wasn't... It wasn't her.

Calming herself as best she could, she walked out of the shadows, moving to the center of the intersection of the two streets. She could feel hundreds of pairs of eyes on her already. She felt their judgement, their distaste, their loathing. And it fell on her like a heavy weight. She had to struggle to stop herself from fleeing; a Tsuyosa never ran. She'd make this work somehow.

Sabiruchi, easily identified by her unique Shikai and the automatons moving about beside her, cleared her throat. The sound rang out down the streets. She winced in nervousness. She decided to keep her eyes closed. She was stalling, she knew. Nobody here knew what was going on. They were stopping out of curiosity. In Sabre's mind, though, the streets were empty. It was only her and Ao here, she imagined. She could do something like this in front of Ao. If it was just her, it'd be fine. As she stood in the street, she began to move her hips, swaying to a beat that at first only she could hear. Then the automatons began to play.

Her voice was soft, and very musical, when she started. She had always been a great singer, but only ever sang to her father and Ao. The microphone automaton magnified the sound of her voice, letting it carry out for hundreds of yards, while not being too harsh on those nearby. "I will swallow, If it will help my sea level go down, but I'll come back to haunt you if I drown~"

Re: Musical Malady (Open)

Post by Sabiruchi Tsuyosa on Sat Jan 28, 2017 1:22 pm

Sabre sang her heart out, pouring emotion into the lyrics. Other than her voice and the music, it was silent in the streets. Sabre danced in the center of the intersection, her eyes closed, but she could feel hundreds of eyes on her as she swayed, moving her hips, legs, arms, turning this way and that. It wasn't any known dance, it was just pure emotion.

It was only as she danced there, that she realized she couldn't hear the voice anymore. As she sang, and danced alone, she was alone. She was overwhelmed by emotion, but not like she usually was. It was rage, or irritation. It wasn't lust. It just... She couldn't really recall anymore what this emotion was called, she had been trying to suppress her feelings for so long.

When Sabre reached the end of Swallow, she didn't wait for applause, she didn't pause. She went straight into the next song, without even knowing she would. She simply was singing, and her automaton musicians flowed effortlessly into the next song.

Only as she was about to start the first lyric did her eyes open. They were all watching her, but she couldn't see any fear, or anger. Confusion, yes. Disbelief, sure. But the general feel was that they liked this. They liked her voice. They wanted her to sing. They didn't know why she was, but the crowds didn't want her to stop.

And neither did she.

"Oh, won't you tell me, please just tell me, explain how this should work~"

Unravel, the song Sabre's singing:

Sabiruchi moved and swayed, letting the raw emotion move her body instead of conscious will. But, as she sang and danced, Sabre directed her automatons to create a new figure, one created from parts that were inconsequential to their forms. It looked strange, even to her, to see pieces of metal come undone and merge together at her shoulder. It formed another microphone, but one attached to a flat metal bar. Only those nearest to Sabre to could see it form, and only she heard it bend and twist until it was functional.

As she danced and sang Unravel, the automatons had created a voice box, her own tiny back-up singer, in her own voice. And when Unravel finished, the beat stopped, letting Sabre collect herself and breathe for a few seconds. She heard people begin to applaud before she started moving again, swaying to a heavy, slow beat.

The back-up voice began, giving out a soft, nearly sexual "Ooaaooh." The music continued, and again came the voice. Then, Sabre herself began, pouring herself into the next song, "Don't be aroused by my confession, Unless you don't give a good god damn about redemption"

Re: Musical Malady (Open)

Music? Faint, but definitely music, and not bad music either, something interesting. Kei walked down by his small garden of lilacs, and slowly would kneel down. His hand gently traced along a few of the mature flowers, until he found one at it's pique, it's prime. Nothing more could improve the flower naturally at this point. He wrapped the base in plastic, another song, so faint he could barely hear it. Anything loud enough to be a performance would be likely heard by him when he was in such a central part of the Seireitei, even if others weren't quite as strong at listening to the calming melodies as he was, and this was more than just a street singer. Carefully pouring water into now plastic seal keeping the flower safe, Kei made his way toward the door. He followed the music, but this time he couldn't shunpo, how bad would that be for such a delicate flower?

A second song? Was he not privy to a concert? Had he not heard through the grape vine about something so public? Kei was pretty much left out of all invitations due to being more likely to turn them down than accept, but this would be a spectacular low for him. As he walked, he picked up the pace, what a familiar voice. That wasn't the ichibantai fukutaicho was it? She didn't always sound like this but her reiatsu seemed correct. Coming to the area the music was playing, Kei surveyed the area, the crowd, those who listened. Were they mesmerized be her shikai or her singing? It was hard to say really, after all he was compelled to come, something he usually wouldn't do otherwise, but today was different somehow. Additionally, the sight of someone of such high rank doing something so bold, especially with the tenseness he'd heard about for her, something he cared little about.

Seeing her raw emotions told him enough, she was just trying to noticed for something, maybe she had no outlet for her emotion? Why else would she be doing this? Boy it was a good thing Kei couldn't see the leotard or he'd be more at a loss than he already was. Walking into view with the flower in hand, his haori flapping lightly behind him with each step, he made his way closer. At the point of where the crowd ended and the 'stage' began, Kei would calmly kneel down, holding the flower peacefully. The crowd mostly wouldn't even notice him, so entranced by the performance, Kei found it rather easy to slip right up front, and wondered if the singing shinigami would even notice him with such emotions on display, he ventured a guess that it was quite unlikely, though the sight of a Captain kneeling with a lilac wasn't exactly the most common one.

Kei didn't know the music, he didn't know the time period it came from, nor did he know about the instruments used to play it, it was clear this woman had kept up with the human world far more than he did. Thinking back on it, Kei couldn't recall ever hearing such raw sound, it seemed a bit Western, but with enough flair that it might be Asian, it was hard to even guess what nation found such a strangely melodic music, but it was interesting to say the least. He could sense the instruments were unmanned, so quickly he put it together that it was her shikai, but he did not know much else about what it did, he wasn't the type to discuss that kind of thing very much, either about his or about his fellow shinigami.

When the third song ended, Sabre had to place her hands on her knees, catching her breath. Three songs in a row, with such different tempos, made her feel light headed, especially while using her Shikai constantly.

She wasn't sure when it happened, but she had stopped seeing the crowd while she sang, an only now did it come into focus. She could make out individuals now, and the normally extremely formal and rigid noblewoman felt heat spread through her, but not the heat of her burning muscles. Color crept into her cheeks when she released she had actually sang such a sexual-sounding song directly in front of a Captain, as well as several people she had business deals with. She was thankful the Captain was blind and couldn't see her ridiculous Shikai clothing.

When Sabre had recovered, she straightened. Some of the crowd had left, but others remained on the busy streets, still watching her but talking among themselves. She spoke quietly, but it was amplified by her microphone automaton at her neck, "Who would like to hear another song?"

While the murmur of people trying to figure out what they had just seen, the Captain reached forward, placing the lilac down gently in front of Sabre. Shifting back to a kneel he would keep his head forward, roughly aimed toward her abdomen. If it weren't so clear he was blind, it might look like he was staring at her outfit, but fortunately his eyes were almost always closed anyway, so most quickly got used to him facing strange places. "I would hate to press you for a fourth", he said rather distantly. Neither did he confirm wanting to hear one nor make it sound like he had enough, but with him remaining kneeling down it seemed he wasn't planning on walking off just yet, no she had his attention.

Kei remained quiet, respectful, this was her time. While activities like this weren't officially sanctioned, they weren't discouraged either, and as such, Kei saw them as a way for shinigami to get entertainment, to boost morale. Whether Sabre was doing this for the audience or for herself didn't matter, both seemed to be benefiting in their own way. To that end, Kei added, "I would be interested in hearing another though, if you have it in you to perform." Finally he confirmed his interest, demonstrating that despite her embarrassment of such a song being performed, that he was neither offended nor hesitant to speak positively to the way it was performed. While this wasn't the type of music Kei would ever look for, the fact was, hearing it performed live was a nice change of pace.

Sabre blushed a bit as the flower was placed in front of her, and the sixth Captain, much younger than herself, gave his intentions to hear another. And so it seemed the crowd agreed; they all wanted another.

Sabiruchi bit her lip, bowing to the blind Captain out of respect, despite knowing he wouldn't see it. She tried not to think about how his current position made him level with her torso.

She left the flower where the Captain placed it, not wanting to damage it while she moved about. She was already beginning to dance, moving about the space. As she moved, she looked at the crowd, wondering if the Captain Commander somehow talked the young Captain into coming to this performance; that would be like that Baozhai bitch to embarrass me like that, Sabre thought. "This song goes out to the Gotei, protectors of Soul Society." Sabre moved to the center of the intersection, away from the crowds, as the music started up.

The song began with a heavier beat than the previous song, and it was clear from the beginning that it was going to have a much higher energy. "This bloody road remains a mystery, this sudden darkness fills the air~"

Listening to the music, Kei was nearly motionless. A true testament of a shinigami's ability to enjoy a performance without so much as even so much as a slight movement. Kei didn't know much about the Captain-Commander, nor did he know much about his Lieutenant. The two of them were not often within his exceedingly small social circle, as such he didn't even consider that she might see his presence as a prank of sorts. The idea hadn't even crossed his mind in the slightest. Instead, there was music, singing, and a shinigami demonstrating a skill he did not possess himself. Art and music eluded Kei in all fashion, he just did not have the voice, nor the hand for any form of artistic skill save for calligraphy, which could only be described as impressive for someone who couldn't see it himself.

The Captain did shift at one point, the music was louder than he expected, but it didn't exactly bother him. Instead he just needed time to adjust to the loud beat, to really take it in and enjoy it. Unlike in combat, where Kei could tune out sound to focus on the enemy, Kei was here to listen, and surprisingly loud music, while enjoyable, would not be something he could enjoy long term. His hands rested on his knees, hands closed casually, head moving only when she did. Unable to focus on her visually meant he was only able to focus on her words, her music. This was a unique experience for the Captain, never had he even been to a live performance, focused purely on the music, and enjoyed it as it was. This was what it meant to enjoy music.

His attention shifted though as he did, he could feel it. The shinigami around him weren't enthralled by the shikai. Like him, they were interested in her, and her music. They were entertained, moved, or some even surprised. Was she really so much of a pariah that people would be surprised by the beauty of her music? That didn't seem right, how could such a high ranking member of the Gotei 13 be considered anything less than respected? Had she done something unforgivable? No that can't be right or she wouldn't retain her position. This situation was more than surface thoughts could gleam, and Kei knew he would have to find out eventually, even if he didn't choose to show interest. For now though, the words rang out in his head 'with the power of conviction, there is no sacrifice'. How truly he agreed with those words.

Sabiruchi bowed when her song was over, sweating lightly from the exertion of all this singing and dancing. When it was done, Sabre closed her eyes, and reverted to her Sealed Zanpakuto state, her body glowing with a pure white light before she was visible again, wearing her normal outfit, a "uniform" that was completely out of regulation.

She wore a white dress with black trimming and small crosses on it that came to her mid-thigh, and over that she wore a light parka, her hands instantly going into her Kido-Spelled pockets that were much bigger on the inside. Her pale red eyes scanned the crowds as she gave her thanks, very politely, to them all.

She was surprised that they enjoyed her voice and music. Centuries of being a social outcast made her weary of all the attention, but it felt good. And best of all, her Inner Hollow was silent, truly silent.

But, when the crowds began to drift off after she stated she wouldn't be answering questions, and that the next concert would be announced in a week, Sabre moved closer to the Sixth Captain.

"Young Captain Kusanagi, I was not expecting you to be here. What were your thoughts on the... performance." Sabre grimaced, thinking about what she had just done at the Captain Commander's urging.

Rising to his feet, Kei let his arms droop toward his sides. Head now relatively aimed near her face, it seemed he had less trouble figuring out people's heights when he was standing at least. His face was somber, but seemingly pleased in a way, almost like a smile could be detected but not quite seen. It was fairly normal that he remained emotionally thick shelled, most didn't see much of any emotions from him unless they spent time around Kei. This was slightly different though, he extended the lilac that he brought as a gift. His hand was extended generally toward her, waiting patiently for her to receive the flower, but he did not wait for her to take it before he replied. "It matters very little what I thought. I spent too much time listening, feeling the emotions, to reliably think about them."

The crowd seemed to be discussing among themselves, some dispersing now that the show was over, some curious why a Captain came, but not bothering to approach. Kei kept the hand outreached with the flower, a single blossomed lilac, a sweet scent, one Kei often had on his clothes from tending to his garden. "I can say however, I did enjoy the performance", he added, giving a bit more depth to his somewhat vague earlier response. After consideration, he realized he did not provide a meaningful enough comment, and felt it had to be clarified that it was a pleasant experience at least.

Sabre took the plant, cradling it with one arm to her bust, careful with the flower; she liked lilacs, though they weren't her favorite, they were in her top ten flowers. Reaching out with her free hand, she lightly touched the Captain's elbow, directing him wordlessly towards the side of the street so that the duo were not blocking pedestrians any longer, during which she thanked him for the flower.

When they were safely out of the way, Sabiruchi stood face to face with Captain Kusanagi, made simple due to them being the same height, though Sabre was barefoot, like normal. "This was the Commander's idea. She believes that if I perform as an idol, it can help people forgive my past. Even after all these years, the Seireitei has not forgiven me. But at least they listened today," Sabre said, her voice returning to its emotionless-ly flat and polite tone. Mere minutes after her emotional performance, she was back to being the ultra-prim and proper noblewoman.

Sabre, of course, merely assumed the Captain knew what she was talking about. These days, she thought everybody knew the stories and rumors that surrounded the Tsuyosa Family, especially those about her, the Head of the Family.

Sabre reached into her pocket with her free hand and withdrew a bottle of water, taking a drink to quench her throat while she awaited the Captain's response.

Kei followed, he was used to being led despite knowing exactly where he was. Kei knew it was hard for others to understand just what he could and couldn't do so he took no offense to being guided. A quizzical expression slowly built on Kei's face, as if he had a thought in his head that he struggled with, until he finally came out with it. "Mmm, then I suppose this begs the question, are you seeking forgiveness or waiting for it? Rather, think of it like this, if you expect people to forgive you, then you've set a personal expectation that it will eventually happen, and it's something that can be found. However, if you wait patiently, those who will forgive you eventually will." He lifted a hand to his chin, gently rubbing it as he thought quietly, adding in passing, "But they won't all forgive you, that is human nature."

With that Kei turned his head slightly, his face toward a few people who were walking past, "The way I understand it, you've done something others don't like. What's done is done though, and you can't change the past. Some will forgive you quickly, some will take some time to heal, and others will hold a grudge. Your best course of action would be to earn the respect back by performing your duties better than ever, and not expect others to ever forgive the actions done, because even if they forgive you, they may always resent your decisions." With a sagely nod, Kei crossed his arms, punctuating his comment with stoic look about him. He took in a breath for a moment, the breeze soon after hitting his face lightly. While he may or may not have supplied relevant advice, he could find no situation in his mind that it didn't make sense for.

Sabiruchi let out a forced laugh, blinking her eyes slowly. "The Commander thinks I'll be forgiven eventually if I can just win the people back. Unfortunately, people do not forget, though they also don't like to talk about it."

Sabre shook her head, her longish hair ruffled as she shoved the water bottle back into her pocket. "Those old enough to remember won't forgive me, and I'm not asking them to. I'm just trying to do my part for the Gotei and my Family before that old ha-" Sabre cut herself off, composing herself. "Before the Commander sends me back into the field like she promised. But that was how many decades ago? Do yourself a favor, young Captain Kusanagi; don't go making promises with the Lady Commander Baozhai."

With a somewhat hard to read expression, it was fairly clear Kei was listening carefully, though a sudden smile formed for the first time on his face. A single sharp breath exhaled shows a sign of a chuckle as the woman before him finishes her words. As she finishes explaining, Kei nods, and simply says, "Do you know the problem with people who truly are completely fair? Those are the ones who are the most difficult to make promises with. Let me ask, she promised to send you back into the field, but did she put a deadline on /when/ she'd do it?" Chuckling a bit he was suddenly reminded of parents promising their kids 'when you're older', just to drop the conversation.

With a smirk, Kei thought for a moment before saying, "The unfortunate thing for you is that I consider myself a completely fair person as well, meaning I seem to be similar to the Commander in more ways than you would seem to like." With Kei standing before Sabre, there was a somewhat calmed atmosphere than before, Kei felt that Sabre seemed less reserved, less held back than when she first realized he saw her performing. Had she already warmed up to him? Kei felt like most took a long time to get used to his presence in a room, this was at least a nice change from that. "By the way, do you plan to make this a regular attraction? Have you thought about performing outside of the Seireitei?"

Sabiruchi raised a brow at Kei's comparison of himself and the Commander. With a sigh, the Lieutenant straightened herself, taking her hand from her pocket to rest it on her hip. "Don't misunderstand, Captain Kusanagi, I do not... hate, the Commander. There was a time we were quite close, and I'm not referring to merely working under her. But, centuries of waiting to die puts a person on edge and strains even the best of relationships." Sabiruchi was not purposefully leaving this as ambiguous as it sounded. It wasn't until after she said 'relationships' that she recalled the various rumors of the intimacy between herself and the Old Lady Baozhai; rumors Sabre still hasn't been able to squash.

Sabre turned her head, looking out towards where she has performed. Then, her gaze returned to Kei's, looking him in the eyes despite them being closed, and his blindness.

"The Commander has all but ordered me to perform. I don't really have a choice in whether I do or not."

Shaking his head, Kei spoke with purpose, "That was not a performance by someone who didn't want to perform, that was a performance by someone who didn't know they wanted to." He reached out and placed a hand on her shoulder, speaking rather candidly he added, "I could be wrong, but think about it, did it feel like you were rejecting the idea when you were singing? Did it feel like you expected it to be a waste of time? Or more importantly, did you think about those around you, those who were being entertained?" He stood with his hand on her shoulder for a moment longer before he slid his hand down at his side. "You would need a sword at my throat to get me to sing in public, and even when I was up on stage, I'd be thinking about how it needs to end, not taking requests."

Kei took a step back and lifted his head back some, feeling out the reiatsu of those around, feeling out where everyone was as he spoke again, "Do you feel it? People in groups, talking. What do you suppose they're talking about? Some haven't even left view, and I can bet they were all talking about you." What Kei probably didn't know was some of them were probably talking about her outfit and how it looked on her, but the point was still somewhat valid. Even if he didn't know the show was performed in a more provocative look, that would only have added to his point, one he didn't even need to know to validate his comment. Oh what the poor Captain didn't even realize he was commenting on, hopefully for his sake she didn't take her outfit into consideration to what he was referring to.

The Noblewoman gave a sarcastic laugh. She was returning to her normal behavior, and she was starting to feel her Inner Spirit stirring. It was only a matter of time before the Zanpakuto-turned-Hollow Spirit began his chanting again. She loathed that.

"I do what I must, as is my duty. If one must do something, they must do it well, or not at all. Anything less would be a disgrace to their position, don't you think?"

Sabre shook her head, clearing her thoughts. "I'm quite used to people talking about me, and I can almost promise you they have nothing good to say. They rarely do," Sabre stopped before making a short tisking noise, unusual for her. "I just recalled that I'm late. Would you care to accompany me, young Captain Kusanagi? I must return to my Estate."

Kei smiled at her comment about doing one's duty, as the Captain of the sixth division, Kei's duty was to turn on allies and bring them in for breaking the law. He was solely responsible for signing off on the deaths of allies who go too far. While Kei hadn't actually had to do that before, the fact was the responsibility was on his shoulders. "Do what we must...", he replied in thought, his face turning toward her as he took step right behind her, ready to follow. "Of course we do what we must, but you said she all BUT ordered you to sing, right? So that means she didn't make you do it, just heavily suggested it." Kei reached to rub his chin in thought once more, adding, "Or at least that's how I see it. Regardless, I appreciate your invitation, I have time, and I haven't met anyone from your house." Kei stepped behind her, following closely as he followed, hands sliding behind his back and resting behind himself.

With that, the Captain silently smirked, a hint that his words weren't intended to be taken at face value, or may have been comedic in nature, however it was also clear there was a hint of truth to them as well. Kei would keep close behind Sabre, wondering how she might react to his comment. He knew what she meant, but playing devil's advocate allowed him to see exactly how people would react to other thoughts.

Sabre nodded her head in thought before turning, ensuring the Captain was near enough to follow by her voice. She walked slowly, but purposefully, away from the street, leading off towards the large Tsuyosa Estate. It would be some time before they arrived, so Sabre continued the conversation.

"There's not many of the Tsuyosa left; less than fifty counting the more distant family members. But none of them are truly worth meeting, except perhaps my sister. But at this time of day, Ao's most likely with the Fourth, probably healing those reckless Eleventh Division again. The rest truly aren't living up to their potential; even our Vassals have more to brag about in terms of skill or number." Though her words were harsh, Sabiruchi's tone was anything but. She said it politely, as if stating facts on the weather or crops, but there was the barest hint of an almost maternal pride, despite it being well known that she was the youngest member of the Tsuyosa family by a couple thousand years.

Walking only slightly ahead and to the side of the Captain, Sabre returned to the previous topic. "As for the performance, that, too, is a duty, but not one of military value. It's familial. The Tsuyosa Family, though we've regained our wealth, are still held in poor standing in the public's eye, due to my history. As such, it is my duty to the Tsuyosa to do anything in my power to bring us back into the good graces of the public. In case you haven't noticed, the Baozhai are currently the most popular of the Noble Families in the public's eye, but it used to be the Tsuyosa who were the most esteemed and respected. Sure, we retained our connections and influence, but people do not take kindly to one such as myself being in charge."

Sabre was quite casual, though still retaining her extra-straight backed posture and formality, in discussing the current state of affairs, but she was being almost purposeful in not admitting exactly why she was a pariah in Seireitei despite her Nobility and high military position.

Despite being a Captain, Kei generally didn't know much about the noble houses. He was one of the youngest Captains still, and as such his time spent in the Seireitei made it difficult to remember all the details of the ancient families. He knew their names, general stances toward each other, and how the public generally saw them, but the details of why were more elusive to him. As she explained the Tsuyosa house to him, he did gain information he hadn't known though, it was much smaller than he expected. How could such a small number of people still possess the strength to call themselves a noble house? Even if they were regarded as a small house, that still outranked almost the entire Rukongai with the exception of just a few families. "Noble houses generally don't make sense to me. The Kusanagi name is basically unknown in Rukongai, and only since my ascension as Captain has it become known in Seireitei. If there are any traditions or behaviors that are expected as guests, you should probably tell me before we arrive."

While not speaking with worry or concern, Kei did make a valid point. He'd never once been to a Noble house, and didn't know what to expect. The age of noble families was usually centuries old though, so he clearly expected it to be steeped in traditions of ancient times slowly worked into modern behavior. The shinigami weren't much different, spending time in Seireitei one might find themselves missing how many traditions there were, but anyone who was a seated member of any division or higher had to enforce those traditions, so for those with a higher rank, they became apparent. Kei didn't need working eyes to see just how many traditions he was forced to employ on his division.

"I've been meaning to ask about your reiatsu though. Surely you know by now that one of the things that landed me my rank was my exceptional ability in sensing it and reading it." His tone was different, more dutiful. Now that the two of them were far away from the crowd and in a place they could talk privately, Kei's movements were much more fluid, he could be mistaken as having sight he moved with such grace, it was no wonder he was scouted for his talent in detection, a blind man who could basically see in a different way. While honing that skill though, what could he gather from just being around people, especially people like Sabre. "You know why I'm curious."

Sabiruchi's neck prickled, where the simple black choker, usually unnoticable, flickered. It was, of course, a very powerful Kido meant to restrain even the most wild of Hollows, but modified to fit around a Shinigami's neck. It wasn't in its true form, however, but she could feel the spell stirring as her Inner Spirit became more awake. She locked the Zanpakuto in a corner of her mind, drowning out it's voice with layers of thoughts.

"There once was a time the Tsuyosa were deeply entrenched in traditions for all things, and I've done my best to uphold them... When they didn't interfere in bringing the Family into the twenty-first century. While it's unlikely you'll see anybody, so long as you're in company, you simply need to recall to take your shoes off when you enter, not to break anything, and to never go into the West Wing. Other than that, Shinigami from all over come and go from the Main House; there's always so much work to do, and the parties of course." Sabiruchi was used to strangers being in her home, having been constantly improving the ancient Estate for quite some time that she hardly noticed the various teams working on projects for her. With her newly updated security system and Estate-wide private internet access, she'd know of anything going on.

When the Captain mentioned her reiatsu, she gave him a sidelong glance. "I'm surprised you picked up on that, but the fact that you had to ask makes me concerned about what exactly they teach at the Academy these days. If you're referring to what I must assume you are, you're absolutely correct. You're welcome to say it out loud, of course; I'm a great many things, but mind reader I am not." Interestingly, Sabre voice, previously hinting at some types of emotion, was now completely flat. As she cut herself off from her emotions to contain the Spirit's outbursts before they began, her reiatsu grew heavier, denser, and a great deal darker.

Her neck stung with a phantom pain, as it iron barbs were pressed just under her skin. She barely noticed.

A few moments  of silence passed, Kei didn't respond quickly for a change. Though the response came, "You and I both know what you are, questioning that would be a waste. However, I'm talking more about how your reiatsu is fluctuating, as if you're resisting." Kei didn't turn his gaze toward the woman as he walked, he had no need to, it would serve him no purpose. Instead though, he walked forward, his face showing a stern look. "Understand, protecting the Seireitei from shinigami who threaten it directly falls into my jurisdiction. Knowing what you are means knowing there is a threat. If that threat is out of your control though, that makes it a concern." He did not show anger, nor remorse for his words. He did not show pity on her, nor disdain. There was no easy emotion to link to his voice, almost a mixture of many emotions that were so diluted that none bubbled up.

He took in a long breath, not slowing his pace as he followed, he spoke quietly enough that there was definitely no intent to cause a scene or alert others what he was saying. This was no longer a friendly chat for him though, his voice made it sound like he was doing his job more than just discussing the weather. While on a personal level he seemed quite fine with Sabre, going so far as to present her with a flower as a gift in public, he wasn't a Captain for his personal feelings, rather his business-driven mindset. At the end of the day, if Sabre were to turn on the Gotei 13, whether by choice or not, it would probably fall on Kei to capture or kill her. He had made it clear earlier, duty is a priority to him, and now he was taking the moment to alleviate any room for suspicion he might have in the future by asking the tough questions now. "Which leads to this question", he continued, "Just how in control are you?"

Despite herself, Sabiruchi had to laugh. When she did, her reiatsu grew so heavily dark, it was almost more like a Hollow than a Shinigami, but an instant later it had rebounded to perfectly ordinary. " I'm sorry," Sabre said, composing herself. Her voice returning to toneless, while her Vizard nature made itself apparent. "They didn't tell you much when you were promoted to Captain, did they? I'm already a prisoner, bound by Kido from the Grand Kido Chief them-self. Even if I wanted to summon my Mask, the Kido prevents it from forming, breaking it the instant it appears. As for your question, I'm always in control of him." Sabre was not speaking in a hushed voice, talking in a civil manner and volume.

"The Commander is the one holding the other end of my leash, and I mean that literally. The kido that prevents me from doing anything untoward is controlled by the Commander herself. I'm practically her pet, honestly, until she holds up her end of the deal and finally sends me out against the Gotei's enemies once more. Tell me, young Captain Kusanagi," Sabre said as they neared their destination, only a few blocks from the main gates. "Do you even know why the Seireitei hates me, and why I'm still alive despite being a Vizard?"

Feeling the hollow reiatsu didn't phase Kei, it felt quite controlled now. She was using it like a tool for demonstration, so it couldn't be much risk. He let out a sigh at her words, "Not to cause offense, but it seems no one likes discussing you. As a newer Captain, I'm left to figure out as I go. In my time as a Captain, I've grown more adept at sensing reiatsu than most, it's been my primary source of information for some time now in fact." Though as he could feel they were arriving, Kei shook his head, "Frankly? No I'm not sure why they let you live. When I asked about you, they said it was handled, so I assumed you were leashed in some way however I don't know any of the reasoning behind it."

As they building came into view in the distance, Kei remained rather calm, despite their heavy subject he seemed not to be phased. While Sabre probably had many heavy subjects about who she was, Kei was new to his post, he didn't have the long experience of suspecting allies that a sixth division Captain eventually and inevitably gains, one he knew he'd end up with some day. This however, was good practice. He didn't seem to anger her by how she responded, maybe touch a nerve, but she was still being cordial, so he did not feel she was angry, at him at least. "However", he said as his senses were beginning to map out the road ahead toward the building, making a mental map of how to get to her home, "The why matters very little now. What's done is done, you can't change the past." His words mirrored the advice he gave her for finding forgiveness. "Just as you've done something others hold disdain for, but at least you're still able to work with the Gotei 13."

Sabre paused only briefly in her stride. How could they let him be so clueless, she asked herself. A deeper, darker voice answered her in her mind.

"If you killed him, you wouldn't have to worry about it."

Sabre was thankful her Hollow couldn't be heard by others. But, she locked the spirit behind her thoughts again, worrying about the taint in her reiatsu.

When the duo reached the gates, she was surprised to find them shut. Sabre tapped the gates, and they slowly opened, the metal gears imitating the creak of wood as best as possible. It was an intentional feature.

"The Tsuyosa Estate is just beyond here. I don't think there's anyone here today, though, besides whom I'm meeting. Anyways," Sabre said, walking through the large gates and stepping into the paved pathway, lined with hedges and exotic trees. On either side of the hedges, the Gardens sprawled over acres and acres. "As for my past, it's best you know. After all, you don't want to be surprised one day."

Sabre kept herself civil, hiding the pain she felt as she brought up the past. "Long ago, just after the current Commander took her position, there was a Hollow terrorizing the outer Rukongai. My father, the Commander and Captains were supposed to handle the situation, but I wanted to prove myself to my father. I left in the middle of the night to go fight the beast. Though I killed the Venomous Hollow, it had bitten me. When I returned to Seireitei, I was beginning the Hollowfication process, and began to turn on my friends, killing Shinigami. By the end of the night, I had killed tens of my allies, including my father when he tried to stop me, and the former Grand Kido Chief, Ma'kine. When I returned to Seireitei, I had no memory of the attacks, and still don't. But, I surrendered myself to trial. When the crimes were read to me, I summoned a mask in my despair, revealing to the Captains and myself my hybrid nature. Though I should have been executed, I begged the Commander, as a fellow Noblewoman, to send me into the field, let me die as a Shinigami as not to bring further shame to the Family. I've been waiting over a hundred and fifty years for one final battle to erase the shame I put my family through, as the punishment I deserve."

Sabre turned fully to the Captain, looking at him steadily. She didn't feel the tear rolling down her cheek. "Do you feel safe, knowing the pariah of Seireitei, who murdered her friends, her very own father, is within arms reach of you? That even after all this time, justice hasn't been served?"
